Slavery - Life on a Plantation
A differentiated lesson, complete with printable resources, all about what life was like for slaves on a plantation. The lesson focuses on source analysis to gain an idea of life on a plantation. Students then have to decide which sources are reliable and/or useful. Students will then peer assess each other’s work. The lesson also links with SMSC, particularly the morality of slave ownership and the cultural consequences of slavery.
Slavery - Bundle of 5 lessons
Lessons focusing on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, fully differentiated and complete with all resources, worksheets, challenges for HA, source analysis and links to SMSC in each lesson. There are 5 lessons altogether (1 hour lessons). The first lesson introduces slavery, the second looks at the Triangular trade route, the third focuses on what life was like on a Plantation, the fourth looks at the abolition of slavery, with the last lesson considering the global impact of slavery. These lessons were used with my Year 7 classes, but could also be used with year 8.
Slavery - Abolition of slavery
A fun and differentiated lesson that looks at the Abolition of Slavery. Students can get into pairs or groups of three to play the Abolition Board Game… which looks at the reasons why, when and how slavery was abolished and who the key people involved were. The lesson is complete with resources and worksheets and links to SMSC, focusing on the moral aspect of slavery and also links with Modern British Values.
Slavery - Slave Trade Triangle
A differentiated lesson on the Slave Trade Triangle, complete with printable resources and worksheets, lesson objectives, challenges, learning links to SMSC and cross curricular links with Geography. The lesson follows the journey of a dress across the Atlantic which links the Slave Trade with Britain and the Industrial Revolution and ultimately asks the question "How did the Slave Trade benefit/impact Britain. I used this lesson with my Year 7 class but could also be used with Year 8.
Slavery - Introduction lesson
A differentiated lesson that introduces the topic of slavery and the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. The lesson is easy to follow complete with learning objectives, printable resources, source questions, an exam style question and also links learning with SMSC, particularly focusing on the morality of slavery. I used this lesson to begin the topic of Slavery and Empire with my year 7 class. however, it could also be used with year 8 too.
