A selection of essay planners (flow charts) to get students to plan responses for possible Section A questions in the Unit 1 Europe exam. All questions are designed to cover a period of c.7 to c.15 years (as suggested in the specification). Concept and Perspective 1 to 4 are included. These have proved popular with many of my students. A Welsh historical murder mystery. Pupils consider whether there had been a plot to murder Llywelyn during the Anglo-Welsh War of 1282. Pupils sift through possible suspects.

An information quest activity to help pupils locate and identify the key features of a traditional mosque. Pupils have a numbered diagram of mosque features, and have to work out their names and their significance/importance to Muslims. Other interactive activities included.

Pupils look at the different SPEAR reasons for volunteering in the summer of 1914, and use their knowledge to write a speech for David Lloyd George to encourage the audience at the National Eisteddfod in Bangor (1915) to join up. Pupils learn the ingredients of successful persuasive writing and use this knowledge to assess and analyse a version of President Trump's inauguration speech in January 2017. Pupils self/peer assess their speeches using colour and the success criteria. NB: All images used have been obtained from free clipart sites.

A two lesson activity focussing on SPEAR reasons behind volunteering for the Third Crusade. Pupils learn the ingredients of successful persuasive writing and use this knowledge to assess a "version" of Pope Urban II's speech at the Council of Clermont. This activity has a Welsh flavour as it is based on Giraldus Cambrensis' journey around Wales in 1188 - pupils have to imagine they are Gerald preparing for a speech to the people of Bangor (adapt as necessary). Pupils then self/peer assess their speeches using colour and the success criteria. NB: All images used have been obtained from free clipart sites.

An introduction to the Five Pillars of Islam. This is a cut and stick activity, with a plenary writing activity at the end. Just follow the ppt and enjoy!
