Why did Owain Glyndwr win the Battle of Bryn Glas?

A follow up to my resource looking at the causes of the Glyndwr rebellion. This resource looks at the famous Glyndwr victory over Edmund Mortimer at the Battle of Bryn Glas (Pilleth) on June 22nd, 1402. The resources encourage pupils to categorise factors, and then use their knowledge to do some extended writing (PEEL task) on the key question. The PEEL sheet will aid pupils to attain L5, whilst follow up tasks can help them to access L6+. There is also an extended numeracy task for higher ability pupils. Enjoy. A follow up to another of my resources (Why did Wales and England do to war in 1276 and 1282?) A detailed resource to develop pupil skill in using evidence (focusing on utility and reliability). Pupils sift through 7 sources (primary, contemporary and secondary) to work out what really happened to Llywelyn on the day he died. Pupils then use their findings to write an account of what they think happened, and then refer to how reliable the sources they had were for the enquiry. A popular resource with my classes.

He died at Waterloo - does Thomas Picton deserve a statue in the Hall for Welsh Heroes?

As the highest ranking officer to die at the Battle of Waterloo, Picton was considered a hero within the British Army. In 1916, a statue was erected in his honour in Cardiff’s Marble Hall for Welsh heroes, but many consider his inclusion an insult. This task asks pupils to assess the life and achievements of Thomas Picton, and consider whether or not his statue should be amongst such notable individuals as Hywel Dda, Giraldus Cambrensis and Owain Glyndwr.

Why did Parliament win the English Civil War? Inc. battles

A two/three lesson resource looking at they battles of the Civil War. Pupils create a living graph (from the perspective of a Royalist or Parliamentarian) to map out the course of the war from their point of view (using the key found on the battle map). Card sorting activity to help them categorise the factors that made the Royalists weaker and the Parliamentarians stronger as the war progressed. An extended writing (PEEL) activity at the end to allow pupils to show their knowledge and understanding of the key question. Enjoy!

Two simple Cuban resources: 1. US-Cuban relations in the period 1959 to 1961: reference to Batista, the Cuban revolution, Castro's economic actions and the Bay of Pigs. 2.
