A two lesson activity focussing on SPEAR reasons behind volunteering for the Third Crusade. Pupils learn the ingredients of successful persuasive writing and use this knowledge to assess a "version" of Pope Urban II's speech at the Council of Clermont.
This activity has a Welsh flavour as it is based on Giraldus Cambrensis' journey around Wales in 1188 - pupils have to imagine they are Gerald preparing for a speech to the people of Bangor (adapt as necessary). Pupils then self/peer assess their speeches using colour and the success criteria.
NB: All images used have been obtained from free clipart sites.
An A level resource looking at the different forms of opposition to Mussolini's regime, and a look into the factors that brought about his downfall in 1943.
Introducing Year 7 pupils to the concept of interpretations.
This simple resource gets pupils to look at two differing interpretations of William the Conqueror and select evidence that could back up both opinions.
Extended tasks gets pupils to consider how background influences and purpose can also impact on interpretations.
Task is designed to assist pupils in attaining L5/L6 in interpretations of history (follow the ppt slide with the two colums and copy/complete tasks.

A resource looking at the life and achievements of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd , the only man to have conquered the whole of Wales, and thus became the King of Wales.
Similarities in the story of William Wallace (spider) and Gruffydd (cauldron of beef).
Pupils have to pick 8 key events, and produce a biography poster report.
A fun activity looking at how the last physical invasion of Britain was foiled by the actions of ordinary Welsh people in 1797.
Tasks include watching a video (with question sheet), and imagining how one of the women who foiled the invasion (Jemima Nichols) would have reacted to her heroism on a fakebook page.

An effective resource to assess pupil knowledge and understanding as to why Britain built an empire.
Pupils must first categorise the various examples into the factor wheel.
They then must give 5 of the most important SPEAR reasons.
Extended writing activity linked with the NC levels at the end.
A simple resource looking at the actions of the Liberal government (1906-14), and how they inadvertently aided the rise of the Labour Party in British politics.
A group/market place task where pupils have to give a "job interview" (of sorts) to the three main candidates to replace Edward the Confessor.
Elements of LNF evident.
Pupil then make a decision as to who was the best candidate. They show their knowledge and understanding via a PEEL writing tasks.

A two lesson pack (L1 and L2 on the ppt).
L1 - Why did Henry VIII want the Acts of Union? A task where pupils consider the different factors behind wanting the Acts. Pupils show their understanding by annotating the factor wheel after categorising the information on the worksheet. Pupils must also consider which factor was the most important (using the PEE formula).
L2 - What were the effects of the Acts of Union? A market place activity where pupils find the different effects the Acts have (e.g. on how Wales was governed, how lawlessness was tackled, opportunities and impact on culture). Pupils should also consider if the Acts were a good thing for Wales.
A resource looking at the struggle for equality in politics for Black Americans. March on Selma and Voting Rights Act included, with GCSE style exam questions.
A resource looking at the problem of poverty, and why there was greater social awareness during the early C20th. The resource looks at:
*traditional attitudes towards poverty
*the problems facing the poor
*the work of Charles Booth
*the work of Seebohm Rowntree
*the impact of the Boer War
*why there appeared to be more sympathy towards the poor by 1906
*why the Liberals won the 1906 election
*how the Liberals helped to reduce the impact of poverty on children, workers, unemployed and the elderly
*criticisms of the reforms
Possible exam questions and revision tasks included.
An historical enquiry into what really happened to the Princes in theTower.
Pupils have to sift through 5 pieces of evidence (which tend to contradict in places) and work out what really happened to the Princes in the Tower..
There is also an activity to assess pupil understanding of source reliability and utility.
The end product is to write a report about 1. What they think happened to the Princes, and 2. How useful and reliable were the 5 selected sources for the enquiry.

An activity to develop pupils PEE skills (Point, Evidence, Explain).
Pupils then draft a PEE answer to consider the factors that enables his victory. Vocab Mat included.
Pupils then analyse and explain the most important factor.

Why did Henry Tudor win the Battle of Bosworth?
This would work well with my Bosworth resource.
A revised version of my previous Depression, War and Recovery resources, catering for the requirements of the new specification (first exam in summer 2019).
Two key questions here include:
1 What caused the Great Depression? (Competition from abroad, lack of investment, free trade, Wall Street Crash etc.)
2 How did people cope with the challenges of the 1930s? (Dole, Means Test, Hunger Marches, Special Areas Act, radio and cinema, new industries, contrast between old and new industry areas etc.)
All 5 exam questions are covered at least once in the resources. All have reference to success criteria/structure strips to aid pupils understanding of the requirements. DIRT improvement codes included too. The actual structure strips will need to be purchased as an addition to this resource.
All images are, as far as I’m aware, from google images (free to use). Those images that I’m aware are not, have been deleted - ready for you to insert the relevant picture.
An activity to help students understand the underlying causes behind the Anglo-Welsh Wars of the late C13th. This looks at the reasons for the deteriorating relationship between Llywelyn ap Gruffydd and Edward I, the aims of both men, their reasons for wanting war, the course of both wars, and the consequences of Llywelyn’s death in December 1282 (i.e. how Edward conquered Wales).
The ppt is basically a walk through of the card resources with visuals and some additional info.
I’ve designed this as one of my Controlled Assessments Tasks (WJEC) and therefore have added 14 sources for students to choose 5 in order to evaluate. These may be of use for developing utility questions from Year 7 upwards (but you’ll have to adapt and simplify).
