Number Practice in Spanish: 100 problems from 0-100

This is a practice sheet for numbers in Spanish 0-100. They are grouped in sections of 20 (0-20, 20-40 etc) so you can assign them as students knowledge grows or altogether as extra practice or review. None of the math problems are super difficult, but they are all written out so students are forced to look at the words as they work the problems.

Oral Assessment:Taking a Phone Message in French

This is an excellent mini project for students of 2nd semester French I or higher to practice asking questions and taking information in French. If you have large classes I recommend assigning phone call times over a long weekend as it takes about 3 minutes per student to phone them and give them the information to complete the assessment. Parents love this project bc they can listen in on their student speaking French!

House for Sale: Project with House Vocabulary, Interrogatives and Chores

(0)
This multi phase project works well for level II students or level I students during the second semester who are learning vocabulary associated with the house. Students must create a classified ad to sell their home, field questions from a prospective buyer on the phone(you) and design a dream home to be built with their lottery winnings. They must also advertise for a maid to keep their dream house clean. Directions for this lesson and grading rubric are in English, with possible phone interview questions in Spanish and French. Lesson is easily adapted to either language as well as German. Project contains written, spoken, listening components as well as one creative component that could be designed as a power point or on paper.

Poetry Terms in Spanish and English

Getting ready to start a unit on Pablo Neruda? I use this worksheet to review students prior knowledge of poetry terminology while giving them the terminology vocabulary in Spanish. If you have a basic DVD in your schools library on English poetry, you can use this to accompany it, but its not required, and students can complete the terms with you in class. I created this after slogging through poetry for a couple of seasons while having to re-teach students necessary terms. It made a big difference at how quickly they were able to apply similar skills to poems in Spanish.

Partner Practice and Worksheet: LA FAMILIA

(0)
This is a cute little partner practice on family members that students can take turns asking their partner about various people. There are 12 people total (6 for each student) and it takes about 10 minutes to complete. It would be a good warm up before a quiz or as a last activity in a day full of family vocabulary. There is also a worksheet attached you could assign as homework that discusses relationships between family members.

Movie Guide: AU REVOIR LES ENFANTS

(1)
Based on a true life experience of the director, this film chronicles a young boys experience at a private catholic school during World War II. Julien befriends a new student and discovers that he is actually Jewish and hiding from the Nazis who have occupied France. This film is excellent for any level of French students and is easy to follow albeit rather sad. I would also recommend it to Social Studies students studying the Nazi Occupation of France. Film can be shown in two class periods. Movie guide contains 22 questions in chronological order and three topics for follow up discussion. Questions are in English as many require higher level thought process responses from students.

12 multiple choice questions for your students to discuss on the last day of class before Spring break. Emphasis on verb pairs in sentences, some reflexives and negation. Not a super complicated activity, but good for that last day of class when your student's brains are already out the door and the other half of your students have already left.

Website is free, easy to use and not difficult to master. Lesson description is in English, so this lesson could be easily applied to Spanish, French or German. Best suited for level I at the end of the year when students have seen interrogatives and regular verbs.
