This lesson is designed to introduce KS4 (year 10 - 11) students to the topic ‘The effects and management of tectonic hazards’. The lesson is suitable for all abilities, and should take around 1 hour to complete.
Through this 1 hour lesson students are introduced to the effects of tectonic hazards and some common techniques employed to mitigate them. Through a series of activities students explore primary and secondary effects of tectonic hazards and how monitoring, prediction, protection and planning can reduce the risks from a tectonic hazard.
By the end of this lesson students will be able to:
- Give examples of the effects of, and responses to, a tectonic hazard varying between areas of contrasting levels of wealth.
- Differentiate between primary and secondary effects of a tectonic hazard.
- Explain how monitoring, prediction, and planning can reduce the risks from a tectonic hazard.
