Job overview

The educator in this central role will have a strong educational vision in line with the IBPYP perspective and one that suits the needs of all learners. They will demonstrate a pedagogical approach that is open to other cultures; be informed on English language acquisition; take a collaborative approach; be able to motivate and inspire teachers and students; be open to dialogue. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Promotion of Teaching and Learning of English Language  

Promote the UISG approach to Language Learning to the school community in collaboration with the Primary Leadership Team  

Ensure that the English language programme aligns with the transdisciplinary context of the PYP  

Support teachers and students to embrace the challenge of a global, multicultural and multilingual community. 

Manage The Hub and develop teacher awareness of resources and expectations regarding class readers and take home readers. 

Coordinate with the EAL teachers to arrange in class and withdrawal support to EAL students. 


Curriculum Leadership 

Model excellent classroom teaching practice in the implementation of English as an additional language.   

Support teachers in addressing the needs of students facing challenges in learning English                      

Use assessment data to identify, track and document student progress. 

Offer training sessions to develop the confidence of teachers as language teachers     

Liaise closely with Secondary English department to promote seamless transition from PYP to MYP     

Lead the planning, teaching and training of teachers in Read, Write Inc 

Arrange (Lead if qualified) the training of teachers in Teaching English in Multilingual Classrooms (TEMC)                                                                                                                                  


Communication 

Liaise respectfully with teachers and the pedagogical leadership team 

Co-ordinate correspondence to parents on matters relating specifically to the subject area. 

Provide or facilitate the provision of newsletter articles over the course of the academic year. 

Take a lead in parental education in collaboration with the pedagogical leadership team. 

Liaise with the Heads of Year and PYP pedagogical leadership team regarding record keeping, moderation and reporting of students’ English language development. 

Maintain and develop resources to support English Language Development.
