Complete lesson with intro and practise on pronouns
Lots of example translation practise that could be done as whole class, indivudually, in pairs or in groups
Suitable for year 9 Spanish studying la música, perhaps from Mira 3 or Viva 2
Differentiated activity
Students have a table to fill in with Spanish sentences. All of the ingredients that they need are around the edge, but words are jumbled up.
Highlighters would be best for this - it will really help vocabulary to stand out and they can use a process of elimination to see what vocab they have left.
Extension available at the bottom for HA students/challenge
Activity suitable for year 8/9/10/11 - daily routine practise.
Grid with complete sentences in English and all Spanish words around the edge.
3 differentiated versions
Just Spanish words around the edge in red
Spanish words around the edge and numbers in brackets next to English sentences to indicate how many Spanish words are needed for the translation
Further differentiation with some colour coded words for extra support.
Ideal as starter, or an activity that could be dipped into several times throughout a lesson
I recommend highlighters so that students can highlight off words that they have used and use this as a process of elimination
A revision lesson based on students already having knowledge of the present tense in Italian
Reading comprehension - collaborative task
Quiz quiz trade game at the end - a nice plenary activity to move students around the room asking and answering questions
Recap quizzing game practising name, greetings, ages, family members
Quiz quiz trade - Pupils need to stand up and move around the room
Pupils start off with 1 sheet each. They do not show their partner, they are encouraged to praise their partner if they get the answer right, or they coach their partner to help them achieve the correct answer.
Then, the opposite (person who asked the questions first then gets quizzed)
Pupils then swap their sheets, put up their hand and find someone else to repeat the activity with.
Must remember at the end of each conversation to swap papers, so they are constantly being asked different questions/asking different questions
Card game, similar to “cheat”
Aim is for students to get rid of cards as quickly as possible
2-4 players
Can be used with variety of topics - this one focuses on the film Volver
Cards given out face down
Cheat cards are the cards that say “Estás haciendo trampa”
If students have a trampa card, they have to make up a sentence on the spot without getting caught.
If the other players suspect they are cheating, they shout trampa
If they are right - the player caught out has to pick up the cards in the pile in the middle
If they are not cheating - the person who wrongly accused them has to pick up the cards
When students dont have a trampa card = they just read out the normal sentence on the card
Used for the old GCSE spec for controlled assessments, but could now double up on new spec as a speaking type booklet to work through as you work through the topic.
Italian prompts and vocab box for each question
This is a game created for my year 12 class, which is quite small.
For example, lets say you have 6 students
Students are given a number 1, 2 or 3
They all close their eyes and in turn teacher calls out numbers randomly. They open their eyes when their number is called and either remember their word, or jot it down.
Eventually, teacher shouts “abre los ojos” and they start to get all their words down onto a mini wipe board. The aim is, the winners will be the team that have the correct Spanish sentence on their board first. After a coule of minutes, an “unstuck” can be shown (part of the translation in English)
