KS2: The greenest Big Lunch challenge

The Big Lunch are working with WWF-UK on ideas to make The Big Lunch, the UK’s annual get together for neighbours and communities, the greenest yet! This complete KS2 lesson aims to help schools, teachers and their pupils consider what ‘greener’ might look like. What swaps can be made to make Big Lunch food planet-friendly? How can food waste be minimised?

The plan is designed to be accessible and geared towards discussing and highlighting changes that can be made or actions which can be taken rather than being an in-depth dive into the topic of sustainable food systems. It taps into WWF’s Livewell diet as a simple way of framing the actions we can take.

The children are invited to design their own Big Lunch menu based on the conversations they have had and finally, justify their choices.

Complete with a Rainforest Big Lunch story for carpet time, this lesson covers several areas of the KS2 Citizenship curriculum. It can be used alongside The Big Lunch live lesson, delivered from the Eden Project Rainforest, or on its own.
