Attached is a completed research method lesson focussing on PET and exam questions in the education portion of Paper 1. Lesson based on the Sociology book by David Brown, Hodder Education - AQA approved.

The lesson is as following:

  • Starts with a Do Now whereby students recap on qualitative data, quantitative data, primary data and secondary data
  • MWB activity - recap on some key terms within research method
  • Second MWB activity - primary or secondary research method? Images will be presented whereby students have to identify whether they are primary or secondary sources or data
  • PET analysis - quick recap on what it stands for and example.
  • Applying PET - example study for students to identify the practical, ethical and theoretical issues (example study is made up just to illustrate the point that all factors must be considered by the researcher)
  • Applying PET - handout with strengths and limitations of questionnaires, interviews and observations. Students need to identify the PET strengths and limitations by highlighting them in coordination.
