This Primary (KS2) resource helps children make safe, confident decisions in risky situations. It builds resilience by practising using the tools to handle complex situations taken from young people’s real-life situations. Our decision-making models are unique. They help young people work through problems around substance misuse, bullying, knife and hate crime, amongst other issues, in a step-by-step process, balancing risk and consequences and working towards safe and healthy outcomes. The programme has been designed to aid in the transition from primary to secondary school, but can be used in years 5 or 6.

Overarching themes are based on underlying life and social skills that run through all of the lessons, building week on week. Helping young people learn about personal responsibility, stress, and anger management, how to communicate confidently, how to deal with pressure and peer pressure, and where to go for help. They do this by working through scenarios given to them by some of our DAaRT Crew, our team of young people, in opening/closing animations and videos who also appear throughout the workbook to advise and guide along the way.

The programme is backed by evidence-based design. It follows social learning theory using a ‘from kids to kids’ approach and has been independently evaluated twice, having a proven impact on our learning outcomes (Nottingham University) and children’s self-reported behavioural and emotional problems. Pupils consulted via interviews and focus groups perceived that their confidence, ability to resist peer pressure, decision-making, and communication skills had all improved. (Sheffield Hallam University – YEF).

The programme includes a suite of resources to enable effective delivery, including lesson plans, workbooks, presentations, and videos, as well as pre and post-intervention surveys and SEND materials. It is the last of our range of resources designed as a whole-school approach to risk management and prevention education.

£300 covers workbooks and resources for a full class of students for a specified term, and includes delivery.
