This set gives an introduction to clinical (health) research, ethics in health research and how research is reviewed/approved. It also provides prompts for discussion about particular issues that arise in research involving children/young people. It is suitable from about Key Stage 3 and above, and may be particularly relevant to A-level Psychology and other subjects with a focus on research methods and/or ethics.
The set includes:
- A flexible plan for a lesson with different activity options including films, role play and group discussion
- A presentation introducing research ethics and how health research is reviewed
- A basic introduction to a research protocol (‘What’s it all about’) and a detailed mock research protocol
- Discussion prompts and character cards for a role play exercise to discuss the ethics of a study
