This resource is an overview of 4 lessons where students learn to perform and compose 4 beat rhythms. The unit brings in musical vocabulary to describe tempo and dynamics. It uses the kodaly language to describe rhythm values.

In these 4 lessons students are guided, through hands on music making activities to learn the difference between beat and rhythm. They begin to compose their own music and have the opportunity to showcase their work in a final performance showcase in lesson 4.

The resource is structured for a non music specialist to pick up and teach using the resources available to them in their school setting.
