THE BRISTOL UNDERGROUND SCENE
A Music SOW that has been inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. In music we cover black music such as Blues and Reggae, but do we actually acknowledge the racism that genres encountered?
This SOW links The Bristol Underground Scene (the Soundsystem Culture) with the racial tensions and includes listening activities, poem analysis, class discussion and a written assessment.
Includes Student Workbook and Teacher Powerpoint for lesson with links.
The SOW has 2 Learning Objectives:
To understand and analyse how the Bristol Underground Scene emerged and impacted music globally
To evaluate the effect inequality and racial tension had on Black artists in the 20th Century
It has been created to further impact the music curriculum by allowing students to challenge racism that exists within the music industry and globally, alongside cross-curricular links with History, English and Citizenship.
