A blank slide to create differentiated homework tasks. The students can unlock 'levels' by completing homework tasks and could choose a Mario character or create one of their own to create some competition.

AQA English Language Paper 2, Reading Section Overview

This resource would be best enlarged onto A3 and could be used during teaching this paper, before an assessment or after a marked piece of work in order for students to make improvements. This focuses solely on the reading section of Language Paper 2 and uses ‘One’s Company’ and ‘Records of a Girlhood’ (2023 exam) as its focus. It is three pages in length. The sections could be potentially highlighted by students or folded to look less overwhelming and to seem more like a bookmark style tool. This is a grid which includes the key things to remember about the reading section emphasis on the importance of the context box at the top of the extract what each question looks like (based on ‘One’s Company’ and ‘Records of a Girlhood’ (2023 exam) questions they should ask themselves for each question to help reading for meaning how to plan (or what I tell mine to do) what should be included to gain specific levels with a short example sentence openers a rough breakdown of marks for grade boundaries the mark scheme with bracketed simplification of some words for students to understand

2025 An Inspector Calls Predicted Exams (GCSE)

After considering all extracts and questions used in AQA’s sample and past papers, and considering the length of extract and question styles used by AQA, I came up with ten possible exam tasks AQA could use this summer on ‘An Inspector Calls’. Each task consists of a pair of questions in the style of the exam, so there are twenty tasks in total. The resource also includes all past exam questions on An Inspector Calls. Please note that these are purely predictions and I have no advance knowledge of the content of the exam!

'A Christmas Carol' exam tasks (AQA GCSE English Literature 8702, Paper 1, Section B)

(0)
A comprehensive collection of 23 sample exam tasks on 'A Christmas Carol' by Dickens, in the style of the new specification (8702) AQA English Lit Paper 1 GCSE exam. As with the official sample materials, each task includes brief details about where the extract is from, the extract itself with line numbers, and a question, followed by prompts to refer to the presentation of character/theme/idea/setting in the extract and the novel as a whole. The tasks are ordered in the same sequence as the extracts appear in the novel, so this would also be useful for recapping the story through key extracts.

Lesson can be easily differentiated for different classes and abilities. Students to draw lines or eyes where they think the focus has altered. Students to cut and stick emojis onto the focus to show what effect is created there. They can then fill in the table. If they need extra support, they can use the focus card sort to help them.

This makes them useful as practice exam material, and/or for recapping key scenes in the play. Each task has a question based on the presentation of [aspect of love] in response to a statement, followed by an extract.

Please note that these are purely predictions and I have no advance knowledge of the content of the exam! Included is also an additional further range of sample Romeo and Juliet exam tasks I’ve put together.

The board will need to be printed on A3 and could be laminated for reuse. This is a really good way of getting students to revisit their learning and knowledge of the characters, themes, context and events of the novella in a fun and independent way. I have used this before and the students really enjoy it. All you will need it some dice to play. You could get students to think of their own questions and tasks too as an extension/challenge.
