U.S. History informational texts with comprehension and grammar questions for Year 3 and Year 4. This book is designed to help students develop their knowledge of key areas of the history of the United States, whilst working on their comprehension skills independently, and adding to their grammar knowledge and creative writing.
Each activity requires NO PREP and has a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers.
This book contains the following close reading activities:

Answers, for teacher use, are on the final pages of the document.
Time allowance ( one hour) for each activity:
5 minutes - read through the text individually.
40 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
15 minutes - Teacher and students go through the text and answers.

This is a biography writing unit about the life of the 16th American President and the leader of the U.S. during the American Civil War, Abraham Lincoln. The unit is perfect for students in Year 3 or Year 4 for U.S. History or Presidents Day. It has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
The first lesson is interactive and involves them cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work into a neat copy on the template provided.

This is an informational text writing unit about the American Revolutionary War. The unit focuses into the causes of the war, and then examines some of the key battles. The unit has been split into three separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. Perfect for students in Year 3 or Year 4.
The first lesson is interactive and involves them cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to write five paragraphs. Then, in the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work into a neat copy on the template provided.

This is a discussion based writing unit about who was the most influential general of the American Civil War. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. Perfect for Year 5 or Year 6.
The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Ulysses Grant, George Meade, Robert Lee and Stonewall Jackson, and writing these onto the included fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual generals. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on a neat copy using the template provided.

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers.
