A full lesson which revises the plot of Shakespeare’s Othello. The lesson gets students to revise over 40 key quotes from the text , considering their position in the text and their significance to the play as a whole. The powerpoint also includes a scene by scene synopsis and list of key quotes explained. The second half of the session revises the difference between the use of verse and prose in the text, with self-directive questioning encouraging learners to examine Othello and Iago’s speech throughout the play. A revision session which looks at the Narrative Voice and Structure in Frankenstein. This session overviews the structure of Edexcel’s Paper 2: Prose Comparison, provides a list of key prose terminology and key quotes from the novel as well as talks through three different ways we can look at the structure of the novel. The plenary asks learners to make initial connections between the narrators and structure between this novel and Never Let Me Go, but can easily be edited for any other text. A revision session used at the end of teaching English Romantic Verse which 'rounds up' the key concerns of the second wave and makes thematic and philosophical links between the second wave writers. The lesson includes a 'do now' activity, an overarching session question, some key points about the concerns of the second wave writers, a comparative element between the first and second wave writers, a 'highlight the elements' of a Level 5/A* model paragraph activity and a reflective plenary. This session overviews Julia Kristeva’s ‘Abjection’ from her ‘Powers of Horror’. The session then encourages learners to apply the theory to Frankenstein, The Handmaid’s Tale and Never Let Me Go. This session is part of a ‘Stretch and Challenge’ series I designed to run in my institution. The sessions are targeted at learners who are achieving at the very top of the cohort.
