This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This 1-2 HOUR lesson teaches pupils the skills needed to compare earthquakes in countries of differing economic development. The lesson looks at the earthquakes causes, as well as their contrasting effects and response. The resource includes information sheets on the two case studies (Haiti and Kobe), as well as a comparison table. An A3 information collection sheet is used to consolidate the case study information. This can also be used alongside documentaries on the two events.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This 1 HOUR resource looks at the difference between constructive and destructive waves and investigate how they shape the coastline. The processes of weathering are over-viewed, as well as how the waves erode the coast through abrasion, solution attrition and hydraulic action.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This 4 HOUR resource includes two lessons; a case study of an earthquake in a LIC (Haiti), as well as one in a HIC (Christchurch). The lessons use internet based research to teach the case studies through pupil led learning. A worksheet to direct research is included as well as scene setting PowerPoints and video clips.
In this lesson pupils are required to write a newspaper report covering Disney’s use of sweatshops in China. A documentary is included for video notes, as well as an exemplar model answer and newspaper template. A marking grid is also attached to ease marking load and for student feedback.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. The lesson teaches pupils how to describe a mass movement event. The students investigate why the Holbeck Hotel fell into the sea through a flow diagram exercise. A mix and match activity is used to classify the types of mass movement events on both hard and soft coastlines. Several practice exam questions and their respective mark-schemes are attached for homework activities.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. In this short lesson, pupils look at prompt images and try to think of reasons why the sediment has been deposited. A simple experiment is then used to highlight how energy influences deposition.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. The resource teaches students to be able to describe what an ecosystem is. The lesson looks at how energy is transferred through food chains and how small changes to parts of a food web can result in significant changes to the ecosystem. A role play task is used to illustrate these systems and a key word check list provided to guide pupils. Two support videos are included, as well as a link to enable learners to produce their own food webs.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This two hour resource investigates rainforest adaptations. The lesson uses a mix ‘n’ match exercise to teach pupils of 8 adaptations that enable rainforest plans to thrive in their niche. The lesson then uses a market stall exercise to teach pupils additional adaptations of specific plant types. The resource includes a range of differentiated exam style questions to text the students understanding.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This 1-2 HOUR resource investigates the erosion features of hard coastlines. The lesson focuses on headland and bays, stacks and wave for platforms, as well factors effecting erosion rates. Interactive slides are used to holistically teach these aspects and handwriting frames are provided for less able students. Erosion processes are recapped throughout a game activity at the start of the lesson.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This scheme of work provides 6 WEEKS of fully resourced, teaching and learning resources. The topic looks at the processes of erosion & weathering, transportation and deposition. Coastal landforms of both erosion and deposition are investigated, along with the mass movement events that occur on soft coastlines. Finally the module looks at how hard and soft engineering methods can be used to protect the coast from flooding and erosion.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This two hour resource investigates rainforest characteristics. The lesson teaches pupils how to describe the location of the world’s rainforests. Pupils then learn how the climate influences the conditions found in this biome. A cardsort task is used to teach the characteristics of the jungle forest layers.
The TWO HOUR resource is a fun and engaging role play exercise! Pupils use the information provided to create their own TV news report. Five pre-determined roles are assigned to each member of the news team. They must then research the effects of global warming, both globally and for the UK, using the cards provided.
This FOUR HOUR resource looks the strategies used to slow global warming. In this lesson, pupils learn how individuals can live more sustainable lives. The lesson highlights man’s parasitic relationship with earth through a video clip and uses cartoon images to discuss environmental issues. Pupils complete a card sort to learn how public transport, recycling, solar panels, insulation and locally grown food can reduce their carbon emissions. They then produce a presentation on the current worldwide strategies, which they can present to the class. The lesson investigates which countries are the least sustainable through an ecological footprint mapping exercise. Pupils assess their own carbon footprint, to see how they could be more sustainable. The final task requires to create an invention that will assist in reduce the amount of energy they use. This is then presented to the class and a vote for the best invention is held.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. This 1 HOUR resource pack includes two presentations that support pupils learning of both hard and soft engineering. The methods of groynes, sea walls, rock armour and offshore breakers are the focus for hard, while the soft techniques include beach nourishment, managed retreat and dune creation. Practice exam questions and mark schemes are included to be used as a homework task.
This KS3 package includes all of the lesson resources required to teach this 9 WEEK topic . The bundle includes a detailed and engaging power point for each of the lessons, as well as supporting videos and activity worksheets. Differentiated tasks and support is provided for pupils of varying abilities. A end of unit exam and mark scheme is included as well as a detailed scheme of work, that explains step by step how the resources are to be used. The scheme investigates both renewable and non-renewable resources as well as the causes, effects and mitigation of global warming.
This resource relates to the AQA specification for GCSE (UK) exams from 2018 onwards. The presentation investigates the biomes of the world. Pupils must first list the biomes discussed in the video link provided. The lesson later investigates why the world’s biomes are found in bands around the world. The pupils are then required to provide a fact file about their chosen biome. Instructions are provided as well as a content checklist.
This TWO HOUR resource investigates the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy. This pack contains a fun kinaesthetic activity, where pupils are required to engage with their fellow peers to match their card to its definition, picture and classification. The lesson teaches pupils how fossil fuels are formed over millions of years, as well as how they are used. The independent writing task requires half the pupils to create an argument for renewables, while the other half argue against them. This is then presented in a debate style presentation, where the class votes for the most convincing argument. A marking grid and writing fame for less able pupils is provided, along with an information sheet to help pupils construct their arguments.
