In this session children are shown how to use search engines to search for images, and be selective about those that they choose. Children then continue to collect key word notes about their animal or plant.

Amazing Amazonian Appliqué! Children use the work of an artist inspired by the rainforest and Deep in a Rainforest as a starting point for some art work of their own. They create simple designs and dye their fabric nature’s way in this session.

The book Deep in a Rainforest shows that the rainforest really is as bright as a rainbow. Children get access to a variety of natural materials and prepare them to create natural dyes. They record the process and dye small pieces of fabric.

What have plants ever done for us? In this session children find out that plants are more useful than we might imagine. After discussing all of the benefits and recording them, children start to consider how what plants give us can be used in more creative ways.

In this session children apply what they found out in the previous session about internet games to create their own Saving the Planet computer game. Whose will be most enjoyable? Which game will encourage us to do things differently?

All talk no action...! Not in this session. Children use the internet to find out what else we can do before creating leaflets to persuade other children and adults to make the change!

The way we are damaging the planet we live on is not sustainable! Children find out about sustainable development and look at some of the changes that we need to make. Children think of both positives and negatives for these changes.

Children complete their presentations started in Session 10, bringing together the information they have collected in previous weeks and images selected from the internet. Children watch the presentations and give feedback to their peers.

In this session children look at a multi media presentation prepared by you which has some good bits and some that need improving! Children then use what they have learnt to plan and then start work on their own using notes from previous sessions.

What is global warning? Children find out what global warming is and how humans have caused and are contributing to the problem. Children compare life now to life 100 years ago and highlight the changes which have increased CO2 levels.

Moving on from the last session, children explore how boxes are made from nets by taking apart packaging boxes. Then using a pre-prepared net, children make and design their own boxes.

Work with a group to investigate friction and to see what happens to the distance a toy car travels when you change the surface at the bottom of a ramp. With support understand what makes a test fair and how to measure accurately.

Practise cutting and joining skills by making a moving Dogger. This session links to English Plan 2 Stories with familiar settings. Learn how to cut well, make a hole in cardboard and construct moving joins using paper fasteners.

What’s it like to look after a baby? Children have the opportunity to see a real baby and ask the mother questions about life with a baby! They then use drama to explore family life and the needs of a baby.

Children continue to explore how our bodies and minds change as we get older and how this might affect us in old age. They go on to explore their feelings and frustrations about wanting to be older.

How have we changed since we were babies? How will we change as we grow up? Children explore these questions by thinking about the different stages of life and recording their thoughts in zig-zag books.

Discuss extreme weather events from present and past. Using data they have been given about England’s weather over the past 30 years, some children draw a climate graph and predict what will happen in the future. Other children create a weather forecast for 2050.

Children learn the differences between weather and climate. Are we the cause of changes in the weather? What might we have done to make this happen? Children are given some websites to research and the activity is to produce a leaflet for younger children to explain this.

Look at products that would be on weekly shopping list, consider the different ways in which these were sold – less packaging. Discuss equivalents between imperial and metric measurements and money. Children convert prices or sort foods into then and now.
