The 3 differentiated example texts contain conversations between the boy and his family when he arrives home after his adventure. This exemplar advert persuading readers to visit Stone Henge is perfect to use as a WAGOLL when studying Chapter 9 of Stig of the Dump. After identifying features, pupils plan and write their own persuasive advert based on the exemplar. An example diary text written from the point of view of an ancient Egyptian boy, plus glossary and differentiated diary planning templates. The diary recounts a day in the life of an ancient Egyptian child living in the artisan village of Deir el-Medina, which was known by the villagers at the time as Pa Demi (the village). This village housed the workers who built and decorated the royal tombs in the nearby Valley of the Kings during the New Kingdom period, including the tomb of King Tutankhamun. A glossary of key terms used in the model diary entry is also provided, plus three differentiated planning sheets so that pupils can plan and write their own diary entries of an ancient Egyptian child. Pupils examine the personality of Ada and other characters in this differentiated character trait matching exercise. Pupils match the main characters from Children of the Benin Kingdom by Dinah Orji with character traits and evidence from the text. This resource has been differentiated three ways: • Higher ability: 10 characters, quotes and character traits have been provided. • Middle ability: 10 characters, quotes and character traits with their definitions have been provided. • Lower ability: 7 characters, quotes and character traits with their definitions have been provided. These nine SATs style assessments are ideal to use after reading each of the nine chapters of the book in guided reading or English. Pupils read the model instructions about how to slay the hydra, examine its features, and then write their own instructions using the templates provided. Pupils can create instructions on how to defeat any of the monsters mentioned in the book, such as the Minotaur, Medusa or Chimera, or any other ancient Greek monster. Example interview article based on Chapter 8 of the children’s novel Stig of the Dump by Clive King. This exemplar interview write up with Barney’s sister Lou is perfect to use as a WAGOLL when studying Chapter 8 of Stig of the Dump. The model interview article comes with a feature identification worksheet, plus an answer sheet that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class, enabling pupils to become confident in the genre before an independent or shared writing activity.
