From the first session of this unit the children know how firefighters were not established in 1600s London and where they did exist they made little impact due to poor equipment. This lesson looks at firefighters now and the impact they have on modern day as well as comparing them to the 1600s.

A KS1 history lesson which teaches children about the life of Tim Peake and why he was a significant individual. Tim Peake has been a significant individual in the UK in the 2010s to modern day. Tim joined the European Space Agency in 2008 which resulted in him travelling to the International Space Station in 2015. Tim was the first British astronaut to take part in a space walk and is a role model for lots of people in the UK to be astronauts and scientists.

A KS1 history lesson which teaches children about how Victorians lived and their homes. England during the Victorian reign developed largely due to the Industrial Revolution. The invention of factories as well as mass producing different goods meant that society changed exponentially. The smaller settlements that had developed in the past were soon left to bigger cities and towns, meaning houses changed. Houses were made in main cities and towns with brick, since it was mass produced.

A KS1 history lesson which introduces children to the Great Fire of London unit through examining London in the 1600s. London in the 1600s was a booming place which was coping with a new, larger population. Due to this the streets were crammed and often buildings made out of timber, creating the seeds to the Great Fire. Within this lesson children will look at London, what the housing was like, the way of life, jobs and what fire safety looked like.
