I give my students of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive reference bank over the course of their German program. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core vocab. They’re great for quick vocab quizzes too.
There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that beginner German students prefer to have both as a reference resource. I’ve noted where a verb is separable, irregular or conjugated with sein. If my group is small, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. We also use our reference lists to help students audit their developing German verb vocabulary.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency German verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German grammar or German vocabulary display, and plain.

German Numbers 0-31 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of German numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner German students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in German.
The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German Numbers 0-31, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in German, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. Some questions focus specifically on German maths language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning.
I’ve labelled the cards A-L, so that if you have the set of 48 task cards ($3), you can use them together.
Try this second freebie focusing on German Numbers 0-31 - these cards are also numbered a-l, but in lowercase, so that students can easily identify which set they are working with:

Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a fruits word search with answer key, perfect for beginner Spanish learners of all grades. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more creatively about language, and their new Spanish vocabulary - they may learn la manzana, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example.
There is a Spanish to English grid, where learners are prompted with the Spanish word, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Spanish and English, and facilitates learner independence.
There is an answer key grid, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are really essential - they offer learners an additional opportunity to engage with language, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own, and particularly each others’ work! They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing!
The word search is in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners. This kind of activity is really versatile - I use as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m focusing on fruits in Spanish.

I encourage my beginner German students to build up a comprehensive vocabulary bank that they can reference easily whenever they need it. I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on. I’ve put the numbers across two pages, because the size of the font is really important for all learners, but especially for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with***words and spelling systems*** in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced German learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning German for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN HIGH-FREQUENCY ITALIAN VERBS LIST FREEBIE
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed in any way outside your own classroom. Please read the Terms of Use. The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply.
25 high-frequency Italian verbs, listed alphabetically***Italian-English*** and English-Italian, ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner Italian students to provide a language learning map, and for intermediate Italian students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a vocabulary audit and enrichment.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form and include regular and irregular high-frequency Italian verbs. I’ve noted where a verb is conjugated with essere, which is a really handy quick guide to the particular features of the verb, and useful for later learning when we look at conjugation, such as the passato prossimo for example.
It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Italian verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency Italian verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning.
I’ve found that vocabulary lists are a great language learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference, either in class or at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency Italian verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I generally use for Italian vocabulary display or Italian grammar display, and plain.

Ideal reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency Italian conjunctions and connectives. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
This list is a collection of 25 high-frequency Italian conjunctions and connectives that students will meet in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of Italian learning programmes, and useful for students beginning advanced Italian as a vocabulary audit.
It’s an important step in language learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Italian vocabulary bank, are able to recognize Italian conjunctions and connectives, and are confident with the meaning of those words in their first / home language, so that they can produce more detailed and descriptive language and more complex sentences and texts as soon as possible.
Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 25 conjunctions and connectives all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing Italian vocabulary, and it is definitely the case that frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on conjunctions in Italian for your students, the list is a good starting point.
There are two alphabetical lists - one I***talian-English***, and one English-Italian, as I’ve found that most language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. I encourage my beginner Spanish students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning binders or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string).
I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag, which I generally use for Spanish vocabulary display, and plain.

I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my Primary French and beginner KS3 French students, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing half past the hour in French, so that they can practise and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too.
The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too.

I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of French, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. Children glue the lists into their French vocabulary books, or file them in their French vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful French vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning.
For young and / or beginner French learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows quarter to the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to French prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with a particular time set, I then move on to additional time sets.

These activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment for young learners of French, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led***information about France*** lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of the francophone world - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
20 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups:geography, country, landmarks, language and food. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other, and providing them with opportunity to apply learning and knowledge creatively. Over the school year, children should regularly add to their facts cards, which in time creates a fabulous bank of facts about France.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned.
24 question / comprehension cards — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There are some independent research questions, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about France. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning.

I give my students of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive reference bank over the course of their German programme. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core German vocabulary.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German reflexive verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. We also use our reference lists to help students audit their developing German verb vocabulary.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency German reflexive verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.

These French speaking prompt cards are perfect for developing speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference books focusing on beginning and general conversation with some cultural knowledge. I created them for my advanced beginner to intermediate French learners. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. As their confidence and competence develop, my students begin to rely less on the prompts, and are able to produce language really creatively. The cards ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. There are also a lot of games you can play with the cards, and I’ve described a range of those that work really well for us.
The reference books include all the questions and answers written out in French. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources. My students use them to guide their own creative use of language, as a kind of writing frame, as they create new questions and answers for each other. We use the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on learning, and to think about what we might reasonably do to progress in our learning - it’s really useful to guide and inform whole-group discussion.
The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their French practically and creatlvely, as they put together both questions and answers for each other, which is integral to successful language learning. This is a really popular with my students, and a great team activity too.

GCSE GERMAN PRESENT TENSE GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS KS4 GERMAN PRESENT TENSE KS3 GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE AND IDEAL FOR GERMAN TRANSLATION PRACTICE
The product is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
The set features 25 high-frequency regular and irregular German separable verbs in the present tense. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two design formats:
= Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new German separable verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank.
= Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs
The answer key is a separate file with six pages, and I generally print this out as a pack for classwork, with groups of students sharing an individual pack.
The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and various question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the prefix and the verb or infinitive accurately. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practising and reinforcing the current language focus.
There are three differentiated conjugation challenges:
= Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them.
= Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation.
= Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation, accurate location of the prefix, and an accurate translation.
