Cover work - Food BINGO Tasks
This Food Cover Work is suited for key stage 3 students studying food. It has been tried and tested with year 7 and year 8 students; but would also be effective with year 9 classes too. The resource includes four tasks and is double sided. It is easily taught by a non-specialist as part of a cover lesson.
Students will explore the Eatwell Guide (video included). They will then categories a list of salad ingredients into the right food groups and identify the nutritional benefit for each. Next students have been asked to identify the salad ingredients they wish to include in their own salad jar. Following on from this, they will then sketch, annotate and explain how their salad jar meets the Eatwell Guide.
Students were very engaged throughout this lesson!

These 3 lessons focus on Healthy Eating, Planning a Meal for a Teenager, Food Practical and Sensory Testing. The 3 lessons are whole lessons and are divided into starter, main and plenary and suitable for KS4 students. Reliable content, video, worksheets, reference to GCSE Food cooking skills marking criteria, examiner marking criteria, dietary meal planning guidance, word banks and supportive resources will help students gain knowledge in these areas; and prepare them for planning and cooking a meal for a specific audience. This 13 page NEA 2 workbook focuses on how to write a dovetailed Time Plan; and is suitable for GCSE students studying Food (AQA and EDUQAS).
The booklet is highly detailed with information and tasks throughout for students to understand the steps to take to write a Time Plan. The booklet provides an example task, this task shows students one method of writing a time plan in a more approachable way.
Students are provided with x3 High Skill level dishes. These dishes require the students to break down the methods and write them in the form of a Time Plan. A template and helpful tips will support students along the way.

The second worksheet focuses on Design Considerations. It focuses on Usability and Colour Association. Students are provided with four tasks. The answers are provided for all tasks to allow for self-marking during the lesson. Teacher may consider providing this worksheet to lower years - such as year 8.

The fifth worksheet focuses on analysing a product & materials and components. Students are presented with four tasks in total. A handout has been provided to support them when analysing a product. Students are introduced to four design problems and asked to provide a solution for each. Please note that 3/4 of the problems on this worksheet also feature in handout three (listed above) and these are as follows:

…the 4th problem is: * Some pre-school children are able to undo their seatbelt buckle.
Students are tasked with four tasks. Tasks include complete the sentences using the missing words, match, cut and stick the design periods to the designer timeline, analyse two products and match them to their design inspiration and design an outfit inspired by a fashion trend.
7.Students are asked to complete sentences relating to branding and marketing. They are then asked to analyse an example app/app icon branding - along with answering two marketing question. Next students are provided with a well known drinks can and asked to sketch their own word/s using the iconic drink typography. Lastly students are tasked to brand a child’s banking app.

These Food Worksheets are suited for key stage 3 students studying food. They have been tried and tested with year 7, year 8 and year 9 classes. The x4 worksheets focus on Analysing a Daily Food Diary against the Eatwell Guide.
Students are firstly introduced to the Eatwell Guide and asked to catagorise a list of foods into the right food groups. Students will learn the nutritional benefits of the food groups and analyse a sample daily food plan. From this, they will create their own food plan and analyse it against the Eatwell Guide; making healthier food choice suggestions. Here you have a lesson focusing on ‘Proteins’. This 18 slide PPT is structured as starter, main and plenary; with learning objectives. This Cartoon Illustration worksheet is suited for KS3 and KS4 students. This worksheet can be delivered by a specialist or non-specialist as part of a cover lesson. The tasks focus on drawing a personalised Mr/Little Miss Character then drawing a front cover showing their character .
The following tasks are included:
Task 1: Replicate one of the four Mr Men/Little Miss characters in the blank box. Focus on the characters simplistic characteristics and features.
Task 2: Create your very own Mr Men/Little Miss character. This could reflect upon yourself or someone you know. When creating your character think about the characters name and key features. Draw your character in the ‘Task 2’ text box. This will become your book’s front cover.
Task 2 Extension: Write the name of your character too, use the same style font as shown on the examples below.
