Worksheet (differentiated)
This is a really fun way to teach doubling to your class. Simple print and laminate the large doubling machine (You may wish to enlarge this A3) and show children what happens as numbers move through the function machine. After completing this practically using whiteboards and concrete resources for counting id required, children can then move on to recording this in their books. The small doubling machines can be printed on to stickers or glued in.
The traditional tale 'The Enormous Turnip', has been rewritten and differentiated by phonics phase to encourage independent reading. You could leave off the last page and ask children what they think will happen next, before reading the last page.
