Unseen Poetry AQA 2024 Model Answers
High level model answers to both questions from the Unseen section of the June 2024 AQA Literature Paper 2.
The 24 mark question was about a poem called ‘The washing never gets done’ by Estonian poet Jaan Kaplinski.
The 8 mark question involved comparing ‘The washing never gets done’ with ‘A day in autumn’ by the Welsh poet R.S. Thomas.
In both answers I have put all references to authorial methods in bold because A02 is an vital aspect of the mark scheme in both questions.

Paper 2 Question 5 November 2019 Grade 9 response
A grade 9 750 word model response to the AQA November 2019 Paper 2 Question 5 about animals.
Starts with a powerful anecdote before moving to presenting the central argument. It explores and then dismisses the counter argument before adding a conclusion that links back to the opening anecdote to help gain marks for whole text organisation and structure.

Grade 9 speeches about school uniform
2 grade speeches about school uniform. Both are responses to a Paper 2 Question 5 style question:
“School uniform encourages a sense of pride in students for their school. It also helps with discipline; it is an essential part of the education system in England” Write a speech for a school assembly in which you can explain your point of view on this statement.
One response agrees with the statement. One disagrees with the statement.
Both start with a personal anecdote before moving to the main arguments.
By placing them side by side on an A3 sheet, students can make comparisons and move towards generating their own opinions and own speech about the topic of school uniform.
Reader's Theatre fluency intervention booklet
A booklet aimed at helping Year 6 and Year 7 students with developing their reading fluency over 7/8 weeks. Begin the course by assessing students against the fluency rubric.
