9 times table lesson

9 times table lesson

This is a complete lesson focusing on recall of the 9 times table. There are lots of lessons involving reasoning and problem solving but often, not quality, resources focused on the speed, fluency and accuracy of recall. The apps that often bridge the gap between home and school are excellent but do not come with the quality teaching content that shows children strategies for recalling their facts with increasing speed. This lesson, as with all the lessons in this series, includes counting activities (add multi-sensory opportunities with body percussion for an added pizazz), bar models, odd one out, sentence stems, arrays, quick fire games, mini quiz, which is all built upon buy guided practice following the graduated release model, consolidated with independent learning using the worksheet provided. I love to get children moving around and counting in pairs or threes, using clapping with their chants and where concrete apparatus are necessary, that too! These lessons are perfect prep for MTC. If you find it useful or have any feedback on how you used it, please comment, leave a review or show me on my instagram page @misshb_teacher

Exploring Athens Diary Entry Writing Unit for UKS2

This is a series of 11 lessons that take you on a journey to planning a detailed diary entry. It could be adapted to a first person narrative too. This unit uses a video stimuli which explores Athens from the perspective of a warrior adventurer. The journey includes relative clauses as well as all the features of a diary entry. All example texts are written by myself and designed to draw out UKS2 grammar and writing objectives. All lessons are fully resources, with planning and scaffolding. This entire unit is dyslexia friendly. This is an extremely high quality unit that is ready to teach to outstanding quality. This has taken many hours to create and I have used it many times and polished and perfected it. It is great for cohorts needing improved vocabulary choices, those that struggle with writing stamina and is packed with inclusive strategies for all disadvantaged groups to thrive.

Guided Reading Poetry Week UKS2

This is a set of 4 lessons based on the poem “I Don’t Like Poetry” By Joshua Seigal. It is really good fun to read and mimic. This week long block includes fluency and performing the poem, it them analysing the structure and compares it to another one of Joshua Seigal’s poems, there is a comprehension day working on a mix of skills from retrieval to author’s intent and the opportunity to add a paragraph about hyperboles to extend their figurative language knowledge. Aimed at UKS2 but easily adapted for LKS2.

Guided Reading Cosmic Week 2 Chapter 2

This is a weeks worth of Guided Reading based on the text Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. This covers Chapter 2 and and up to page 33 due to running alongside The Write Stuff unit, we needed to get to the Car Showroom to start our writing. One lesson is mostly reading and there is one lesson which focuses on a particular type of inference question from reading papers (3 mark questions). This also features a drama lesson where children act out a scene from the car showroom.

Paul Cezanne Presentation

This presentation is useful for Artist Studies. The voice files may or may not work so you may have to delete them but otherwise its good to go. I may have gone a little wild on the presentation features as this is an upcoming topic for the kiddos so wanted to get in some cross-curricular questions too (perhaps this is helpful, perhaps not). I have directed this work at Paul Cezanne’s still life and use of sketch book to promote resilience, creativity in experimentation and viewpoint - this supports our overall topic. Edit as you wish but please tag me on instagram @misshb_teacher Thanking you kindly - Miss HB x

Pastel Reading Sentence Stems

Here are some pastel coloured sentence starters for Reading. These were recommended by an old mentor. However, I’m unsure where the original idea comes from. I have edited mine slightly so they are smaller - although could be blown up on the photocopier or decreased further to make a table support. Please edit them as you please but tag my instagram @misshb_teacher and show me what you have done with them. Miss HB x

Rings of Relevance Vocabulary sort

Rings of Relevance Vocabulary sort

(0)
Hello. This activity is a sorting worksheet for words. The learners use it to sort the relevance or effectiveness of vocabulary in context. For example, when looking at synonyms of the word big, children may generate words but then given the context of space, decide that some words generated are not as effective in this context or relevant so they organise them using the rings. In this resource, you will find a sheet that can be used as a worksheet and a larger copy for display purposes. Please show me how you use the resource and or review it. I think it is of great importance to discuss these values with learners so they know what they look like, you can address misconceptions and really set the tone for the classroom atmosphere. These slides have lots of discussion prompts with follow up exercises of drawing and writing sentences about these school values as well as a game at the end for pupils to demonstrate what these expectations look like in action. 8 slides, approx 45 minutes of activity. You can adapt as you need.

I use this very simple template with 30 marbles to collect for my classes to earn a half-termly treat. I’ve always found other templates have way too many marbles to earn or too few. 30 is perfect for a half-term as there are rougly this many school days. I give class marbles for whole class working - everyone on task, working as a team, when adults compliment our classroom or transitions - assemblies etc Hope it is helpful.

I use this to gather a song from every class member and then pull one out of a basket if they have extra time because everyone has been getting on or everyone is working beautifully during an afternoon art lesson. I also may single out a student working really hard and listening well to get their song played.
