Everything you need to deliver 6 Biology practical activities in the lab. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7, 8 and 9. Some would also be suitable in GCSE. The slides for each activity include the apparatus needed, method, results and conclusion/evaluation. I have been using these 6 activities in KS3 for several years now and they work very well, they are one hour long approximately. They can also be performed as demonstrations. Heart and lung dissection Burning Candles Measuring cardiac output - this practical does not require a lab and could also be conducted in an online lesson. Respiration in Yeast Proper use of the microscope. Growing bacteria: this is one of my favourites because they enjoy it a lot. Check the slides’ notes for some extra info. Coincides with Exploring Science textbook/scheme of work, but can be used alongside any other SOW. Technician notes and basic risk assessment are included for all practical activities in an excel document. All pictures have been sourced from the creative commons website. Everything you need to deliver the unit of cells GCSE Biology (60 slides approx.). It follows Cambridge syllabus (0610) and Cambridge IGCSE endorsed book by Jones and Jones Third edition but it is easily adaptable to others. The topic is divided in 7 parts: Introduction: brief with a video about cell theory and photomicrographs The cell: structures and function. Animal and plant cell comparison Specialised cells review Different levels of organisation. Magnification and micrometers End of unit questions. Progress check: 7 slides are revision activities for the different parts of the topic. The slides have been prepared in power point. All pictures have been sourced from the creative commons website. The power point is very easy to navigate for students to be able to used it for their revision. A pdf is included for students to follow the part of specialised cells. Everything you need to deliver the Chemistry unit of “States of Matter” for Year 8. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7 and 9, and for a distance learning approach. Clear learning objectives for the different parts of the unit and many diagrams included for a better understanding. The topic is divided in 7 parts: Particle Theory: learning objectives, revision activity that summarises the particle theory with 4 questions as plenary + changing state revision lesson with an activity that gives an opportunity for differentiation. Changing state with learning objectives and a slide with a big explanation with diagrams and an activity with differentiation. Diffusion: learning objectives, lesson in one slide + mini plenary based on a video from “fuse school” Investigating Diffusion: 3 activities. The first two explore the factors that affect the rate of diffusion and can be followed with or without lab practical so that it can also be easily done in online learning. The last activity is a complete practical procedure but there is a slide included with possible results if the lab cannot be used or for distance learning. Exit ticket as a plenary for diffusion. Brownian motion: video with instructions to follow Gas pressure: learning objectives, 2 slides with explanations and a plenary activity. End of unit questions: 3 activities with several questions. This power point presentation follows the 9700 AS Biology Syllabus by CIE and the endorsed book by Jones, Fosbery, Taylor and Gregory (5th edition). The activities in the slides can be used on their own as revision/assessment or as part of my power point “AS Biology transport in plants”. Answers are also provided for the activities. I use this resource to teach the basics for paper 5 for 9700 Biology A Level. I teach this over 3 full hour lessons or a bit more. It includes: Lesson 1 (slides 1-10): students learn how to plan an investigation. Lesson 2 (slides 11-24): students learn about independent, dependent and controlled variables, describing the steps in an investigation, assessing risks and start the basic math skills for evaluating data by using statistics to include mean, range, interval… Lesson 3 (slides 25-end): more statistics to include standard deviation, standard error and confidence intervals, error bars, t-test and tips to best evaluate their evidence and state a relevant conclusion. The slides include some activities so that students can practice these skills. I hope you find it useful.

The objective of this activity is to introduce students to science while fostering team collaboration and getting to know each other. Divide the group and give them the science-themed question cards, students will work together in groups to answer questions and share their responses, simultaneously introducing themselves to their peers and teacher. The resources include the power point presentation I follow on my first day of Science so that I set expectations for they year and an icebreaker activity.
