I have taught languages (mainly French, some Spanish and German) and been Head of Faculty for nearly twenty years. My current role is now in leading Learning and Teaching. Everything I share is free in the hope that it will save teachers some valuable time and energy - I've added my buy me a coffee link though in case anyone does want to show appreciation by fuelling my coffee habit!

(9)
This is an adaptation of a news article about the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris on Friday November 13th, 2015. It is aimed at Advanced Higher students of French, although it may be useful for A-level if the questions are translated into French. It includes an adapted article, comprehension questions, a 'find the French' exercise, a suggestion for further research, and a writing prompt.

Introduction to French Poetry

(8)
This ready to use poetry power point leads pupils through calligrammes, acrostiches and finally a simple poem extract by Jacques Prévert. It encourages them to think about the poem examples given and has plenty of tasks to get them to create their own versions. It is the first resource I have produced in what will be a short series designed to get pupils 'reading for pleasure' and engaged in French literature at a basic level. I've included extracts in this of other resources I have, some of which I am sure came from here. If you recognise any of this as yours or someone else's, please let me know and I will credit appropriately (or remove from the ppt if preferred!)

Two-part resource on 'Mon Lycée or Mon Collège.&' (vocab covers aspects of subjects, rules, opinions, uniform, facilities, school day.) Created for S3 - pupils secure at level 3 / beginning work at level 4 according to Curriculum for Excellence Es and Os. This could be suitable for KS3 or early KS4. I have included suggestions on how to make this resource stretch further. For cover with a non-linguist teacher or pupils self-marking, I have also included an answer sheet. I hope you find this useful. All comments and suggestions gratefully received!

Perfect and Imperfect Tense Booklet (Passé Composé and Imparfait)

(9)
This is a booklet that explains how to form the perfect and imperfect tenses in French, as well as when to use both tenses. It has 20 activities for learners to complete, including a final progress checklist. I have used my own work as well as extracts from worksheets that I previously found on TES – if you recognise any part of this booklet then please let me know and I will either credit you or remove as you prefer. I would like to acknowledge work by Gianfranco Conti and AnyHolland as I have used extracts from their (free) worksheets extensively over pages 11-13 of the booklet. Please do rate the resource, I welcome all feedback! I hope this helps.

National 5 French Learning booklet

This is a booklet useful for cover / homework on the context of Learning. It was made for National 5 but I imagine might be useful for GCSE as well. It covers: Subjects Opinions School life Clubs Ideal school (conditional) Differences in education systems Uniform Rules Future tense (future plans) It is very much taken from other awesome resources here on TES and just adapted to remove textbook references, listening exercises with no audio etc, and to be user-friendly. If you recognise your work please let me know so I can credit you! As ever, reviews are gratefully received.

Adjective Agreement Snakes and Ladders

Adjective Agreement Snakes and Ladders

(18)
Simple word document snakes and ladders board for practice of classroom items, animals and colours. Encourages use of adjective placement and agreement. Pupils must say English if they land on a French word or phrase, and vice versa - encourage other players to help improve accuracy and pronunciation. You could ask them to write the answer to each one they land on in order to check accuracy of agreements. Thanks must go to lisgarten for the original snakes and ladders template!

Why Study Languages?

This promotes language uptake. It contains a link (right click and select 'open&') to a 23 minute film clip by &';Routes Into Languages' as well as a quick quiz to educate students why language skills are so valuable in the workplace. The last few slides are specifically about French. I found several different sources (thank you to all original contributors) and adapted them. I hope this is helpful -- as always, all comments are welcomed. (There is an Edinburgh specific slide in this. You could alter to demonstrate that there are more than 300 languages spoken in London alone.)

This booklet has been created to accompany Métro 1, module 4. It covers sports, opinions, weather and some other free time activities. It includes a vocabulary page. This could be used for homework, cover work or reinforcement in class. I have edited and added to parts of worksheets I had saved. Some may be from TES. Apologies for being unable to credit anyone who I have borrowed from, but thank you if I have! Hopefully this will save someone else some work. I would welcome a rating and feedback if you have time.

Du / de la / de l/ des - partitive through food vocab (nourriture)

(5)
This worksheet practises using the partitive (du, de la, de l' or des - translating SOME from French to English) using the topic of food. It assumes that the rule has already been taught, though it does have a reminder box. The first exercise is choosing the correct partitive for each food item, and the second is translation of sentences from English to French. As always, all feedback is welcomed!
