A collection of editable, topic cover pages for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to stick in their exercise books or folders at the beginning of a topic. This resource is designed to aid both teachers and pupils in tracking and monitoring learning in science.
Each cover sheet is available in PDF format as well as MS Word format to allow for editing so the resource can be personalised for your classroom and school.
Each cover page includes:
PLAN YOUR LEARNING - A simple table for learners to record what they already know about the topic and record questions they have to find out more. This encourages young learners to be reflective and provides an opportunity for them to propose questions that can lead to pupil led enquiry later on in the topic.
TRACK YOUR LEARNING - This section includes two tables for children to self assess and monitor their own learning. The first table focuses on the key Subject Knowledge Targets that learners should have met by the end of the topic, to be working at age related expectations. The second table included Skills Targets that learners will get the opportunity to focus on and practice over the course of the topic. This will scaffold the development of pupils’ working scientifically skills and support teachers in making assessment in monitoring that learners are working at age related expectations when working scientifically.
SCIENTIFIC VOCABULARY - The final section includes a collection of age appropriate scientific vocabulary that pupils are likely to use during the topic.
