An ESOL / EAL listening comprehension and reading lesson about the life of Robert Burns. The focus is on hearing and basic understanding and looks at some of the of traditions and national customs of Scotland, related to the life of the national poet. There is also a grammar focus on linking words such as and, so, because, but & when. Students watch a short animated video about Robert Burns and answer questions related to the story. There are activities such as sentence ordering, underlining the linking words and gap-fill. Solutions are included. This would best suit pre-intermediate (A2) or intermediate (B1) level students.

Primarily for ESOL / EAL / ESL students, this board game gives the opportunity to practise the simple past of the verb “to be”. Best played in small groups of 2- 4 players who take it in turns to throw a dice and move their counter along the board. The player then says the sentence on the square that they land on, using the correct word - was, were, wasn’t or weren’t. The game has a variety of sentences including positive, negative and questions forms. Can be used with beginner to elementary (A1 - A2) students of any age.
