This bundle gives insights into amazing contributions women have made and could be used to support Gatsby Benchmarks 3 and 4, Women’s History Month. It includes:
Women in Stem, which is a complete lesson and includes a preliminary quiz, which is then discussed as part of the lesson.
The Curie Women - the legacy of Marie Curie and her daughters
NASA Women - individual slides could be used as starters in Maths or Science lessons
Formidable Female Composers - this includes links to the music of the women mentioned and could work as a complete lesson or using individual slides and the relevant links as starters to inspire and support GB 3 and 4.
Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin - the breakthrough astronomer - this presentation could be used to support GB 3 and 4 in encouraging students to see the value in determination and what a woman can achieve despite the obstacles in her way
Sofonisba Anguissola - an introduction to a woman who made her own career in a time where court artists were predominantly men. This could support art and design with GB 3 and 4.
This is an introduction to some of the women composers whose names may be less familiar than their male counterparts, despite the undoubted contribution they made. It offers a chance to find out more and begin to understand the struggles they had. It could be part of Women’s History Month, or serve to support Gatsby Benchmarks 3 and 4. It is wholly adaptable and individual slides could be used as starters.

As part of this it is important that they understand the threats to the environment and how they can contribute now and as adults to exacting changes. The presentation looks at the vital role of pollinators such as bees and the threats they are undergoing as well as ways to make a change. There are points to discuss and the Teaching Notes include a link to duplicate a quiz on Forms as a preliminary to the lesson.

This presentation discusses the issues around Hate Crime and Disability, looking at what constitutes a disability and providing discussion points to consider various aspects of the question, including the question of advocacy and how to report or support someone experiencing such crimes. The teaching notes include a link to duplicate a quiz on Forms for students to complete in advance of or at the start of the lesson so they are not coming to the topic without having given it some thought beforehand. Osteoporosis Week comes at the beginning of June, but this could be part of PHSE at any juncture. The lesson discusses what the condition is and how it can affect the body, but also looks at preventative members and poses the question of why young people should be thinking of this/be aware now. In many ways it contributes to supporting a healthy diet and exercise regime, also highlighting the contributing factors of alcohol and smoking, eating disorders and steroid tablets. There is a quiz on Forms to introduce students to thinking about the topic and the link to duplicate is in the Teaching Notes.

This presentation and accompanying discussion sheet and teaching notes are designed to give students the opportunity to discuss issues surrounding race and hate crime on a basis of race. They should gain a fuller understanding of who is affected, starting with the quiz on Forms (link to duplicate in the Teaching Notes) and through the links to extracts from news articles. The resource also includes links to videos which you can choose to include (timings included so you can estimate what will fit your time slot). There is a focus on racism in sport and a wider discussion of how trends in sport influence society and vice versa.
This topic has been under discussion lately and this lesson allows for a fuller understanding of the term and the implications it can have for men and society, while reflecting on how to reset and make positive choices. This presentation is a complete lesson with optional discussion points, but can easily be adapted to be used for an assembly by taking them out. It outlines some of the King’s history and education, his particular interests and looks at the pomp and ceremony of the day. There are links to a couple of videos - the Crowning of his mother, giving some idea of what to expect and how to make the royal quiche.
It allows opportunities to discuss the line of succession and the cost and benefits of such a momentous event, while also looking at the community events and impact. There is a worksheet to accompany the discussion.
This lesson is designed for early in the academic year to support students new to sixth form to appreciate the value of academic reading. It coincides with various September dates such as Read a Book Day, International Literacy Day and E-Book Day. It comes with a preliminary quiz on Forms (link to duplicate in the Teaching Notes) and introduces students to what being a Sixth Form student involves, preparing them for further study and helping them to build a repertoire of reading to support later university applications. There are a range of opportunities for discussion and the opportunity to try out some wider reading sites if they have access to a device in the lesson. The plenary allows for students to feedback what they have gleaned and will take away with them. It could be worth sharing the presentation with both students and sixth form teachers to help with a unified approach.

This resource/lesson looks at the trillion dollar maritime industry and the vital role it plays for the UK economy, the importance of being an island nation, helping students to consider what possibilities are available in this area, where to find out more and to get them thinking about the subject.

This 2 part bundle includes a powerpoint on the value of work experience and tips on how to find a placement, and a powerpoint on the value of volunteering, to celebrate International Day of Charity at the start of September, but also at any time to demonstrate the value of volunteering, for the mental health of the volunteer, to help people in need, and to build skills such as empathy, teamwork, showing initiative, which are of value in the world of work and sought in job and university applications.
