I absolutely love this lesson- it’s a really active way to teach the students the first 20 elements of the periodic table and their electronic configuration by getting students to answer questions, check their answer by seeing if it’s on one of the posters, and then writing down a code to crack the metaphorical safe!

Combustion practical perfect for year 7 or 8. Students recap equipment and variables before carrying out an experiment into how long candles remain lit for under different size beakers. Students then analyse results and write the variables for the practical. Students could also plot a graph from these results.
