Biology
Digestive enzymes- problem based learning
Enzymes higher level lesson based around nutrition (written by Nutrition major)
The lesson start with a key word match up to overcome difficulties in language. This is followed by a video with questions to provide an active watch for the students.
The lesson assesses learning via a hinge point question and the students move on to attempt a differentiated task. The task looks at various illnesses induced by enzyme deficiency, there are corresponding question to assess the understanding.
The lesson concludes with an exit ticket.

These are 'plug and play' lessons designed for ease of application and good to outstanding lessons. I am very pleased with this series of lessons as it has inspired a difficult year 10 cohort and increased motivation in science.
Communicable diseases - independent activity and exam question
The lesson starts with a gcse biology question looking at the prevalence of TB and HIV.
The learning outcomes are then reviewed before the students attempt an independent research task looking at five communicable diseases and answering questions that lead to an understanding of the learning outcome.
Their understanding is assessed by matching question and answer card sort, included were in the download, there is a higher order question two push the top end of students. The lesson concludes with a 10 mark exam question which students record in an exit ticket tracker and rank their learning outcomes.
There is a model answer to the ten mark exam question included to ensure consistency for the students.

This is the Learning Outcome sheet for GCSE Biology, Edexcel Topic 5 - Health and disease. This includes of the combined science biology spec points for topic 5, exit ticket tracker, RAG by learning outcome and entry and exit test tracker.

The spread of disease - discussion and essay self-assessment.
The lesson start by engaging the students with a guess the LQ activity. The students then are guided through producing a mind-map of the spread and prevention of the exam spec diseases before they attempt a 6 mark question. As a class they review the mark scheme self assess their own work and redraft to perfect there answer.
STI and prevention - Lesson to inspire and inform the most in need of education.
The lesson is of vital importance to young adults as it make students aware of the risk of unprotected sex.
The do it now activity is a image to inspire disgust and conversation around the topic. There is a short video clip and some active watch questions to inspire conversation. The lesson them moves to looking a facts of 7 STIs and ranking them in an arrowhead 7. There is a brief look on the prevention of the contraction of the disease and then students attempt a exam style HSW worksheet; there is an extension built into the worksheet.
CB5f - Chemical and Physical barriers - Edexcel 9-1 - Topic 5: Lesson 4b
Lesson 4b is the follow on for lesson 4. The lesson is written inline with the specification points for Topic 5 Edexcel 9-1 new GCSE.
The lesson starts with a differentiated started where the students work up a pyramid of tasks. The information is presented of the methods the body has to defend itself from pathogens before a hinge question assesses understanding of the topic an directs the students to an appropriate task. The lesson finishes with an exam question that can be recorded in the learning outcome tracker.

Cells, Cell control, Genetics and Health and Disease x 50 lessons
These 4 Biology topics comprise of approximately 50 lessons. The idea of these resources was to make very self sufficient lessons that could consistently deliver good to outstanding outcomes.
The series of lesson have AFL and differentiation built into ensure that planning time in reduced so feedback can be a priority.
CB5h - Antibiotics - Edexcel 9-1 - Topic 5: Lesson 6 Antibiotics
The lesson is specific the new Edexcel 9-1 GCSE and part of topic 5.
The lesson starts with a review of the previous learning. Before a circus of information gathering, comprising of 4 tasks to help the students take ownership of their learning. The students the attempt a worksheet with an extension task built in to the lessons. The students finish the lesson with an exam question.
Enzyme practical
The lesson consists of a presentation and a practical help sheet looking at pH and enzyme activity.
Calorimetry
The lesson looks to compare western and third world diets. At the same time as learning some of the foods and problems of diet the students learn lab skills.
Food tests
The lesson looks at investigating the standard food tests for: starch, protein, sugar, fat. The lesson if for the higher ability students. The lesson tests student's understanding with an exam question before an exit ticket concludes learning.
The theory of Enzymes
This lesson pushes the basics of enzyme activity (denaturing, optimum pH, temperature, substrate concentration) It leads to a differentiated activity to help understanding for mid and high ability. The lesson concludes with an annotated exam question. There is an exit tick plenary.
CB1g Edexcel 9-1: Core practical
Lesson includes basic resources to support the core practical plus a powerpoint lesson that helps break it down and differentiate it.
CB1a- revision- microscopes
This is a revision resource that covers CB1a microscopes. The resource looks at comparing electrons and light microscopes, magnification and image size. There are short quizzes that summerise the learning and a worksheet and exam question to review the topic.
CB1b,d - revision- cells
This is a resource that looks at bacteria, plant and animal cells. It requires a textbook (preferably the combined science 9-1). This is a really simple lesson that looks at defining and comparing the different cells before completing a worksheet to summerising the learning. This is best purchases as part of my series of revision lessons.
CB1g - revision - enzymes pH, temperature and substrate concentration.
The lessons starts by a quick review of the factors that affect enzyme activity before a exam style questions on enzymes. This is not a stand alone resource and best used with the revision collection.
