This card game has students practice substituting a number in for a variable. Students play in small groups, and for each turn, students must calculate the value of their cards to identify a winner. A different value for x can be chosen every time the game is played to keep it exciting. Great for remedial learners and gifted learners or for use when students need a break from their regular seat work. It makes Algebra fun and is a great way to reinforce class lessons.

In this lesson, students review the following word parts in order to increase their vocabulary knowledge: cred, circum, fract, mal, centi, phob, chron, and centi. This packet begins with a general lesson on breaking apart words. Next, students are asked to try to define some words that have the word roots as they are introduced. Then, they are asked to draw pictures of the definitions to help them remember them. After that, they are given a long list of words that use their new vocabulary and challenged to see how many words they can use to write a paragraph. The fifth activity asks learners to make a word search with their new word list for a classmate to solve, followed by a color by code, word art, and a quiz to check retention. Supports Common Core and Reading Foundational Standards. No instructional lesson plan needed. Simply print and teach! This is a great activity for introducing or reviewing base words, prefixes and suffixes and an excellent resource for writing practice since it asks learners to apply their knowledge by writing sentences with new words.
