Finding Fractions of a Number - 3 different methods

This activity sheet should only be used once the children know the following: . 1.) How to separate counting cubes into equal groups (I use plastic cups for the groups. Alternatively you could use grouping hoops). 2.) How to draw balls on a sheet of paper and separate them into equal groups. If you are asking a child to separate halves, they should draw the balls in groups of 2 (in an array formation) then separate into 2 equal groups. If you are asking a child to separate quarters, they should draw the balls in groups of 4 (in an array formation) then separate into 4 equal groups. If you are asking a child to separate thirds, they should draw the balls in groups of 3 (in an array formation) then separate into 3 equal groups etc. 3.) How to count confidently in 2’s (when working with halves); how to count confidently in 4’s (when working in quarters); how to count confidently in 3’s (when working in thirds) etc. . This sheet has questions related to halves, quarters and thirds but you can always change the questions. Fully editable. Example shown.
