Lesson plans
The pack is made up of three lessons. Each of these focuses on a different reading skill, and prepares children for the test by enabling them to gain confidence in these key areas. The children complete simple activities based on that skill before answering practice questions. Following a review of the question answers, the children can then complete the relevant questions on the past SATs paper.
Lesson 1 – 2b – Retrieve and record information / identify key details from fiction and non-fiction.
Lesson 2 – 2a – Give / explain the meaning of words in context.

This challenging KS2 grammar game will help get children thinking about rhyming words. A tarsia is a simple jigsaw puzzle which children solve by matching up sides of triangles so that they correspond with each other, to form one giant equilateral triangle. In this case, children need to match rhyming words. An ideal stretch and challenge activity for in the classroom, or for homework.

This KS2 grammar resource provides everything you need to teach five 15-minute lessons on powerful verbs. It opens up discussions about word choices and how choosing the right verb can change the impact a sentence has on the reader. It explores synonyms and, for example, different words to use instead of ‘said’. Activities include challenges such as writing a five sentence story about an image, using at least three powerful verbs, and playing verb charades.
The five SPaG lessons are designed to be taught across one week. Alternately, you may wish to teach the sessions in larger chunks, spread over a longer period of time or intersperse them with different grammar, punctuation and spelling lessons.

This pack contains 21 posters that define some of the main grammatical terms children need to learn and understand in KS2 English. Each poster puts grammar in context by highlighting an example of the term being discussed within a sentence, and matching lots of examples to an engaging central image.
There are four versions of each poster.
Completed poster - These posters can go straight onto your classroom wall. The image is accompanied by text to illustrate the grammatical term.
Blank poster – The posters include the grammatical term and the definition. The remaining text has been removed. The poster is ready for your class to add their own text in the speech bubbles provided. These can then be arranged around the poster.
Giant poster – A large version of the blank poster. This can be printed off in four parts and assembled to create a larger display.
