Draw like Tim Burton
As with my Pick-a-Witch series, I have created a resource where by you can use this reference sheet to have personalisation and choice, whilst still be guided in your selections to create a portrait in the style of Tim Burton. Perfect for some spooky Halloween displays!
Defeating with Decimals
Here are two word documents in the style of letters to children: one from a vampire hunter and one from a witch hunter. Both letter’s are about working with a potion recipe to defeat the monsters. The recipes are for one bottle and then there is differentiation for the children to upscale the recipe to larger quantities. Both letters require the use of decimals - for the vampires it is to one decimal place and for the witches it is to two. Both are accompanied by a teacher’s answer guide.
Cookie's Cake Calculations
Miss Trunchbull has asked Cookie for the recipe of her terrible torturous chocolate cake to be upscaled so she can punish more children through the power of numbers!
Times Tables Patterns
Use this resource to highlight and find the patterns within the times tables. Examples of its use can be found on Instagram @TeachingInTecnicolour.
Graffiti Spelling
Brick wall style background that the children can use to display their spelling words in graffiti style. I usually write first in pencil, check and go over with black, then surround with highlighter and colours. Examples can be found on Instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour.
Respect Bundle
Large RESPECT lettering to be decorated by the children.
Followed by a Respect Acrostic Poem template.
After this there are word starters to help with the creation of the poems.
Make sure you play a wee bit of Aretha Franklin when they are working away!
Find out what it means to them!
Termly Targets
A nice way to share targets for each term. Grayscaled for children to decorate over. Examples can be found on Instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour
Halloween Pick-A-Series
Vary your Halloween display with these fun and creative guides to help your learners design witches, monsters and pumpkins. There is plenty of scope for personalisation and choice.
If you use these, I would love to see some of the results. You can share them with me on Twitter at @InTechnicolour or on Instagram at @TeachingInTechnicolour. You can also email me at teachingintechnicolour@gmail.com
Please don’t remove the watermarks.
I hope your learners love using them!
Blank Board Game Template
A simple table that can be used to redesign ‘Snakes and Ladders’ into a themed version. Could be used at any holiday, but I have mainly used it for Christmas time. Examples can be found on Instagram at @TeachingInTechnicolour.
Dystopian Writing - A World Without Mathematics
Dystopian Writing Task Resource
Engage Your Students with A Dystopian Writing Task Resource!
Introduce your students writing a dystopian narrative set in a world without mathematics. They will follow a brave protagonist battling against an antagonist who has eliminated math, leading to chaos and disorder. This resource encourages critical thinking about the importance of mathematics in society as well as narrative and imaginative writing skills.
What’s Inside:
Model Writing Example: A sample narrative that highlights key elements of dystopian narrative, providing a clear template for students to read and analyse. This has an AI generated image to accomany it and help inspire the idea of the antagonist villain.
Planning Page included this Learning Intention and Success Criteria as well as prompting questions and examples to help inspire your children before they begin.
Learning Intention: To create and gradually develop interesting plots, characters, and settings (ENG 2-31a).
Success Criteria:
An engaging title to draw in the reader.
A vivid setting and context for the story.
Gradual development of the background and plot.
Introduction and description of interesting and believable characters.
Use of figurative language techniques: alliteration, similes, and metaphors.
An ending that clarifies the protagonist’s aim and goal.
Responsibility Bundle
A great resource to use with upper school children (KS2) at the start of the year to help reinforce the skills and qualities needed to be a responsible monitor and buddy in their final years of primary school life.
If you can, please share some examples of this work on Twitter/X @InTechnicolour or on Instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour
NLC Active Literacy Stage 2 and Stage 3 Word Searches
Simple word searches that are matched with the phonemes of the North Lanarkshire Council Active Literacy Pack for Stage 2 and Stage 3. Can be used during the teaching of these stages as holding tasks during Literacy Stations or can be used as revision tasks when moving into Stages 4 and 5. Examples of work can be found on Instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour.
Scottish Products PDF
Here are a bank of images of Scottish Products that can be used for a Product Design lesson, examples of which can be found on my Instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour.
Four of each product as I like to print 4 to a page on A4 to get four mini version to then be worked on a piece of A3.
I don’t own the rights to these images.
The Grinch's Heart
A resource designed for inward reflection around Christmas time.
To look beyond the materialistic aspects of Christmas and find what makes our own heart grow, just as The Grinch’s had. Christmas can be overwhelming for many adults and children and focusing on the things that make us happy, content and loved during these times can be helpful. A word mat is provided as a guide to support those in sentence creation.
Adapted this year (2022) to include the idea of thinking about parts of our bonnie wee Scotland that makes our hearts grow, to be used as Christmas cards for those newly settled in Scotland.
Festive Feast for a Budget of...
A very simple scrapbook style resource for the children to cut and paste items from a supermarket Christmas magazine to create a menu on a budget. There is space on the cover for final calculations to be tallied and space for a starter page, a main page and a dessert page. I kindly ask in Lidl or Aldi to have enough booklets for one between two and then the children can work in pairs with varying budgets from 20 to 100 pounds.
If you can, share examples of your learners work on twitter @InTechnicolour or Instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour
Thanks, Nicholas
