Fantastic planning on biographies with lots of interesting people to learn about such as authors and footballers. Children will learn how to write successful biographies in an interesting way. Also included is a weeks worth of SPAG in the form of starters. This resource allows children to become completely emerged in the writing style of biographies. The planning is extremely detailed, as is the notebook file, which makes your job 10 times easier, as all you have to do is teach from this pack. There are many differentiated activities included also that just need to be printed. Children will research information on the author Louis Sacher and by the end of the week, they were excited to write a biography about him. Balanced Arguments

A 6 day plan on formal arguments, encouraging children to think about moral dilemmas. Children will be introduced to the idea of moral dilemmas and arguing for and against both in a balanced argument. This resource involves teaching children how to write a balanced argument in a progressive manner. Children will initially watch clips on how to argue in a balanced style. As the week progresses, children will be gathering information needed in order to write a balanced argument for themselves. There is a planning period as well (with resources) to allow children to properly plan their argument, as to ensure it’s balanced. This also gives children the opportunity to edit and correct their small errors. There is elements of arguing/debating orally also, which taps into speaking and listening. By the end of the week, my class were excited to write a balanced argument on whether it is a good idea or not to keep a giant bag of cash that you found at the bottom of your garden. They were even more excited about turning it into a debate, which can easily be achieved. This resource is saved within a ZIP file. INCLUDED: *A 6 day detailed lesson plan, explaining how to carry out each lesson. *A detailed, colourful notebook file to encourage discussion and to show expectations. *A powerpoint to show the structure of a balanced argument. *A success criteria to allow children to self-assess and peer-assess the written task. *2 differentiated planning sheets. *Moral dilemma scenarios to cut and distribute for discussion. *A notebook file on how to use connectives. Tanka Poems- Year 4 Poetry Planning

(0)
This is a 4 day plan focused on Tanka Poetry. Tanka poems are 5 lines long and contain 31 syllables. They are normally about nature, love, sadness or other strong emotions. As my children have studied the Vikings this year, I have based this planning for children to imagine that they are a Viking leaving their lovely homeland and family. Children spend the week researching about the Vikings leaving their homes and also using similes, metaphors and adjectives to describe their feelings. My children really enjoyed these lessons and were surprisingly good at writing Tanka poems. Powerpoint, lesson plan and activities included.

Kennings- Year 4 Poetry Planning

(0)
A weeks worth of planning and resources for kennings. This weeks plan involves immersing children into poetry by getting them to identify the features of a kenning and to create their own by the end of the week. To make it more interesting, I have included a research day for children to collect facts for their kenning about one of Africa's top 5 animals. (lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino). At the end of the week when they are writing their kenning, they will write it on a background of their chosen animal. I have included powerpoint presentations also. These lessons also touch on alliteration. The kennings produced at the end of the week are beautiful and colourful also, they make a great display! Please review this resource and also check out my other resources if you get a chance: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Morrisr9

Instructions Year 5

A 5 day lesson plan based on instructions. Three of the days are based on children evaluating and creating instructions through video clips and practical activities (making paper airplanes and origami fortune tellers). Two of the days are focused on comprehension and handwriting. The children will be taught how to write successful instructions by understanding that they need to use clear, simple English for their reader to understand clearly what they are directing them to do.

Phonics Screening Revision Game

This game involves asking the children to roll a dice and read the sound that their counter lands on. When they read the sound, they must think of a word that this sound is in. I played it in mixed ability pairs, the low ability children just had to try and read the sound. It was a lot of fun and they loved it. It contains diagraphs, triagraphs, split diiagraphs and single sound letters for a thorough revision.

Year 4 Literacy- Story/Imaginary Setting

(0)
This is a weeks worth of planning, resources and presentations based on imaginary settings. Children will be creating their own imaginary world in which they will need to know inside out to write about. To make it more interesting, children will need to pretend that they are Horrid Henry entering their own imaginary land. I taught these lessons this week and they worked very well. Children loved creating their own worlds in which they could bring Horrid Henry into it. There is planning stages to these lessons also which allow children time to edit their worlds for the ‘big write’ at the end of the week. Included is: Powerpoint on Frontal Adverbials Planning sheet Model Plan Powerpoint for reference Scaffolding sheet Success Criteria for stick in (checklist for children while writing). Detailed, differentiated plan.
Playscripts Year 4
TheIrishTeacherTheIrishTeacher

Playscripts Year 4

(1)
These playscripts allow children to create their own play while learning the features of the play-script also. I have attached fairy tales that are turned into playscripts. The features that they will learn how to use are: *Cast list * Scene Headings * Character name and : * Stage Directions The first lesson allows children to create their own list of the features of a playscript by finding them themselves. This exploratory, paired learning works best when it comes to the end product at the end of the week. Children are encouraged to choose a fairytale that they already know to alter slightly, to make the actual story part easier. There is a SPAG lesson included also on adverbs. This will help children to use them for the stage directions also.

Descriptive Writing KS2

Resources, plan, presentation and SPAG. This week of lessons really helped bring on the children's descriptive writing. The video clips help them to imagine things clearer and bring great life to their writing. I found it really successful. It focuses on getting the children to use their sense to imagine what a scene looks like. SPAG lesson is on prepositions and this presentation was accumulated from TES website also.
