This resource takes students through extract analysis using the mark scheme (Eduqas) and then blends into a guided full essay response based on the concept of 'Authorial Morality', paralleling the exam structure. Other activities include a character focus on Godfrey and separately Silas and Eppie alongside consideration of structural devices used in this part of the novel.

This activity uses 'Fallen Puzzles' to engage students in a High Order Revision Activity, which is fun and challenging, but due to the nature of the High Order will support longer term retention of these quotations in preparation for the exam. This lesson draws on a wide variety of teaching strategies to engage and focus students with how to analyse poetry. These skills in turn can be used for analysing Unseen Poetry. This lesson is fully differentiated, from learning objectives, to tasks and to outcome plenary. This lesson should take between 2-3 hours to teach and includes a task that crosses over into Imaginative Writing for the Language Paper. I have taught this lesson a number of times and my students always enjoy the ‘finding the answer’ style of this lesson a lot of fun!
