This assembly uses music, interesting facts about New Year, an inclusive ‘hands up’ activity and challenges students to adapt their approach to setting new year’s resolutions and instead aim to be more reflective and make changes all the time to ensure they achieve successes in their education, personal and emotional lives. This assembly draws on facts that traverse a range of cultures and is overtly linked to the SMSC agenda. This would be a perfect assembly to use as a first assembly back in 2020 and will save you thinking/planning time over the festive season.

GCSE Literature: Lord of The Flies: The Link between Genre and Context

GCSE Literature: Lord of The Flies: The Link between Genre and Context

(0)
This 12 slide powerpoint takes students on a journey of realisation in which they discuss the definitions of fiction and fable, consider the context against which this novel was written, read some fables and decide what lesson is to be learnt and then apply this understanding to this text through a creative activity. This powerpoint is designed to ensure that context is never again merely ‘bolted on’ in an exam response. This lesson works well at any stage in the teaching of this novel as it is designed as much to teach, as it is to ‘fill gaps’ in terms of revision. This resource is the first of a range of resources on this text, so do follow me if you want to keep up to date on what is available.
Edexcel IGCSE English Language Extract: H is for Hawk

Edexcel IGCSE English Language Extract: H is for Hawk

(0)
This resource introduces students to a range of language and structural devices required in their Edexcel IGCSE examination, however, this resource is also suited for any teachers looking for an extract on which to practise these skills. Learning is scaffolded through analysis of short phrases and sections from the whole extract to enable students to feel secure in their GCSE level analysis. This resource includes a powerpoint and a homework task so that learning can go beyond the classroom. The tasks are designed so that students gain confidence before attempting individual tasks and the lesson includes talk time and time when students can annotate the text on the whiteboard if you have this facility. My students find these resources hugely helpful in accessing higher grades and have historically done very well in their final exams, approaching them with confidence and a wide range of understanding in regard to methods used. Students are continually prompted to update their records and recall methods to help embed this information in their long term memory. The full extract is not included, however, if you should need this please do ask and I can email the full anthology to you, it is also available on the Edexcel website. I hope you enjoy this as much as my students have and do.
