Chinese New Year. Whole School Assembly

We are ExcitEd to share a fun interactive assembly plan to celebrate Chinese New Year. This download includes: A detailed assembly script, with details about the Chinese New Year festival and an interactive storytelling of the traditional Chinese Folk Tale, ‘The Great Race’. A PowerPoint assembly presentation to accompany the script. (16 slides) Assembly entrance and exit music (Embeded into PowerPoint and links to free MP3 download.) Printable images of all zodiac animals to be used during interactive storytelling. Assembly Content: Starting with calming instrumental Chinese inspired music, children can take their places in the hall. A brief welcome is followed by a true or false quiz to introduce the assembly’s focus - Chinese New Year. (Also referred to as Luna New Year or Spring Festival.) After some information about the festival, where, how and why it is celebrated, there is an interactive storytelling of the traditional folk tale, "The Great Race’. This traditional Chinese tale explains to children how the new years came to be named after animals. Teacher’s should print the included prop cards to use during the story telling. Children could be chosen in advance or on the day to take on the roles of the animals. There is no need for rehearsals as this is completely led by the story teller and the children are given instructions as part of the story telling. The accompaning PowerPoint presentation shows illustrations and text to go alongside the story and could be used as an ebook. At the close of the assembly, the current or upcoming Chinese New Year animal is revealed and some information about it is shared. (this information can be edited so that the assembly can be used each year.) Finally, teachers wish the children good fortune and happiness in the new year using the Cantonese phrase, Gong hei fat choi. The exit music is again a calming Chinese inspired song called Gong hei Fat choi. The assembly should last approximately 15 - 20 minutes. (This is week 6 of a 6 week scheme of work built around The Iron Man. The complete half term of work is available as a discounted bundle in out TES shop.) Reception teachers, we are ExcitEd to share a fantastic set of activities to welcome children to school on their very first day! Using the book ‘Hey Duggee First Day at Squirrel Club’, we have developed a follow up activity and keepsake certificate that can be personalised and taken home. ( Book available on Amazon ) This download Includes: Lesson ideas sheet with lots of fun ideas for the first day of school and links to additional resources. A hide and seek activity game. Print off the images of the characters and hide around the classroom. A tick sheet is included for the children. First day of school certificate. A double sided document, in either A4 or postcard size, which can be personalised and printed for each child. A first day of school badge image which can be printed as stickers using Avery labels.* Duggee is a great character to use at the very start of the year as most children will already be familiar with him. This familiarity creates a link for children with their new classroom and teacher. A topic that they can all talk about. Our hide and seek activity, uses the characters featured in the story and encourages children to explore their new classroom. This can be a particularly good activity for more timid children. Stickers and certificates to take home make a special reward for children. We are ExcitEd! Follow us on Facebook @Excited Resources for more ideas and freebies.

Oliver Twist Diary Entries. KS2 Literacy. 1 Week Unit.

We are ExcitEd to share a fabulous 1 week literacy unit for KS2. This collection of 5 lessons is linked to the Victorians and a child appropriate version of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. The outcome of the unit is an independent write of a diary entry written about Oliver Twist asking for more. Children will have the opportunity to develop and refine their sentence structure skills throughout the week so that they may apply these to their writing. This unit has been writing in line with the English National Curriculum for children work in years 3 and 4. TAF statements have been used to differentiate the lessons for children working towards, at the expected level or at greater depth. This download includes: 5 literacy lessons with resources building up to an independent write of an Oliver Twist themed diary entry. A detailed weekly lesson plan linked to the English National Curriculum. A PowerPoint presentation to support each lesson. Daily starter activities - spelling rule related. Printable worksheets and support materials for each lesson. All differentiated Lesson 1 is a reading comprehension lesson that introduces the children to the story of Oliver Twist. An appropriate version of this story is recommended and could be used as a whole class reader alongside this unit. Lesson 2 looks at the correct use of full stops and capital letters. Differentiated worksheets support children in identifying where punctuation should be used in a model diary entry. The features of a diary entry start to be gathered as reference for the children. Lesson 3 is a role-play lesson that will be exciting and memorable for the class. With the teacher in role, children are dished up gruel and anyone brave enough to ask for more is punished!! This is the basis of children’s independent write and often a highlight of the term. Lesson 4 puts the planning in place for children’s independent writing. They will complete differentiated activities on use of the past tense and first person. Lesson 5 gives children the chance to show off the skills they have developed and refined during the week by writing their own diary entry. The plenary looks at editing and improving. We have found this to be a fun unit of work related to the Victorians. The outcomes have been outstanding. We are ExcitEd! Follow us on Facebook for more ideas and freebies.

UKS2 Literacy. Radio Adverts - Persuasive Writing Lesson

(87)
We are ExcitEd to share a fun and exciting lesson where children use persuasive writing skills to create radio adverts. *** Radio Adverts - Can you persuade me??*** A one off, great fun lesson for UKS2. Giving children a chance to revise persuasive writing skills and also to use their speaking and listening skills. The included lesson notebook revises different persuasive writing techniques and focuses on how these are used in radio adverts to persuade listeners. Recordings of real radio adverts are included so that they may be discussed before asking children to have a go at making their own persuasive radio adverts. The activity cards are differentiated - Yellow MA, Green A and Red LA These were given out in the lesson in envelopes (so that other groups were not aware of each others target audience etc) and the children worked in pairs to come up with ways to persuade certain groups of people to visit various places. e.g Elderly people to visit a swimming pool, children to visit a museum. At the end of the lesson, children read out, or play their radio adverts. The rest of the class should then guess who the adverts were aimed at and discuss how and why they were successful. Also includes a persuasive bingo plenary game We bring you effective, teacher made, fun and creative resources for use in primary schools linked to the English National Curriculum.
