WHOLE LESSON COINS AND TOTALS

(0)
A simple but effective lesson designed to brush up on students basic addition and subtraction skills under the backdrop of money. This is based on the old SATS questions where students would be asked to make different combinations of coins that gave a certain total. The powerpoint contains a variety of questions and then the resource has multiple tasks on different sheets that you can use to differentiate. Some are interactive and will change by pressing F9 on the sheet, thus creating an infinite amount of variations. Surprisingly challenging and always relevant.

AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lesson 21 Factorise a Cubic

(0)
This lesson will take students through how to factorise and sketch the graph of a cubic equation. The trial of the first root, the application of the factor theorem and then the divisional process is shown in detail. Graphs are drawn to illustrate the geometry of the work. The resource that accompanies the lesson is fully differentiated

AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lessons 19 and 20 Factor Theorem

(0)
This is two lessons in one to allow students to practise the factor theorem. The new specification does not specifically refer to the remainder theorem but the classic problems are still worth looking at to get students to practice the skills involved. The powerpoint (which has a starter) will take students through the types of problem involving finding unknown coefficients. The resource that accompanies the lesson is fully differentiated. The other lesson simply reinforces this work

FOUDATION GCSE ANGLES ON POINTS AND LINES CALCULATIONS

(0)
Calculating the missing angle on a line or round a point. The powerpoint explains the theory and then the worksheet accompanies the lesson. The resource can be printed to an A5 booklet and students write their answers on the sheet. There are 4 levels of differentiation: first level is simple multiples of 10 as the given angles. The next level is any two or three digit angle. The third level brings in multiple unknowns and the fourth level sees students form and solve linear equations. No solutions given
GCSE FOUNDATION: MEAN FROM DISCRETE DATA TABLE WHOLE LESSON

GCSE FOUNDATION: MEAN FROM DISCRETE DATA TABLE WHOLE LESSON

(0)
This is an entire lesson on showing students how to calculate the mean (and mode, median) from a table containing a discrete distribution. The powerpoint shows us why we multiply across the rows by showing the data at the bottom of the screen. The resource is differentiated at 3 levels and can be written on to allow students to easily and quickly complete their work. Answers not included but, as it on a spreadsheet, a simple cell formula can be used to find all summary statistics
GCSE HIGHER MATHS THE THREE AVERAGES COMPLETE LESSON

GCSE HIGHER MATHS THE THREE AVERAGES COMPLETE LESSON

(0)
Complete lesson which takes students starting the GCSE Higher course through a review of the three averages. Simple calculations are covered as well as reverse problems and “give me three numbers with a mean of…” type problems. Lesson includes a starter activity, the Powerpoint demonstration and the fully differentiated resource which contains notes and space for students to write their answers. No answers given.
FOUNDATION GCSE: COMPARE FRACTIONS WHOLE LESSON
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

FOUNDATION GCSE: COMPARE FRACTIONS WHOLE LESSON

(0)
Entire lesson on how to order fractions. Powerpoint takes students through how we use equivalence to compare. Fully differentiated, write on resource goes from comparing two fractions with help, to comparing three fractions with some help to finally ordering 4 fractions where the denominators are very different. Answers not included.
HIGHER MATHS LESSON: INEQUALITIES ON NUMBER LINES
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

HIGHER MATHS LESSON: INEQUALITIES ON NUMBER LINES

(0)
Full lesson on introduction to inequalities Powerpoint animated to show what the symbols mean. How we represent them using full and empty circle. Listing integer solutions Fully differentiated resource with three levels of difficulty. Students write on the resource. Students can measure their own progress at end in plenary and ask questions. No answers included
COMPLETE LESSON: GCSE HIGHER MATHEMATICS AVERAGES FROM A GROUPED DISTRIBUTION
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

COMPLETE LESSON: GCSE HIGHER MATHEMATICS AVERAGES FROM A GROUPED DISTRIBUTION

(1)
Complete lesson how to find estimates of the mean, median and the modal class of a grouped distribution. There is a starter activity included, the Powerpoint which shows students how to tackle their work and a fully differentiated resource which includes notes and space on which students can write their answers. Plenary section is included on the resource. No solutions given.
GCSE HIGHER SAMPLE SPACES: COMPLETE LESSON
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

GCSE HIGHER SAMPLE SPACES: COMPLETE LESSON

(0)
Complete lesson on creating and use of a sample space diagram for probability. Fully animated powerpoint shows students why we need them and how they work. Fully differentiated resource allows students to write their answers on the sheet. Three levels with a challenging profit and loss question on the hardest level (level 3). No solutions given. Bonus is an interactive two dice horse race game. This is a macro on an excel sheet and so will need setting up on your computer.

9 documents on one spreadsheet that will give quick revision of all of the basic skills needed at foundation level for students targetting grade 4 or 5. Topics include scatter diagrams, pie charts (draw and interpret), averages and probability. Answers not included. Can be used as revision, homeworks are plenary activities
WHOLE LESSON: SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON: SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS

(0)
Multiple lessons and resources to take a KS3/4 class from the very start of simultaneous equations through to more complex examples. I teach it via matching the coefficient of the middle term and then applying different sign add or same sign subtract. The powerpoint takes the students through the phases of the work where, at first the coefficients match. Then students will have to multiply through to enable a match. Finally there is manipulation of both equations required. At least 5 different resources, many of which can be written on and some answers are contained. Homework task is available also.
GCSE FOUNDATION: MEAN OF SMALL DISCRETE DATA SET
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

GCSE FOUNDATION: MEAN OF SMALL DISCRETE DATA SET

(0)
A classic lesson that introduced students to how to calculate the mean. The resource is fully differentiated and can be written on. It contains standard calculate the mean questions and the reverse questions where students are asked to complete a set of cards whose mean is given. There is a code-breaker exercise included

The fully differentiated resource which can be written on starts with one star (easy) which is multi-choice and progresses through more advanced expressions which need simplifying. Answers not included.

FOUNDATION GCSE REVISION OF EQUATION SOLVING: WHOLE LESSON
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

FOUNDATION GCSE REVISION OF EQUATION SOLVING: WHOLE LESSON

(0)
An entire lessons devoted to re-visiting the various equations a lower ability foundation student (or younger student) will have to tackle. This goes from one step (x + a = b) through to classic two step (ax + b = c), through brackets (a(bx+c)=d) and finally letters on both sides (ax+b=cx+d). The equations are nearly all positive integer solutions and so can be solved without a calculator. The resource can be written on and is full differentiated from 1 star (lots of support and little variation in the style) to 3 star (simply the equation). I have included another document which is a little more watered down. The powerpoint takes students through how to solve equations by inverse operations. Note there are no answers to the task
