Lesson 2 in a series of lessons on simplifying expressions. This is a classic scenario where students are asked to find an expression for the perimeter of a shape. The powerpoint walks the students around the shapes and writes out the expression as we go. The fully differentiated resource allows students to write on the sheet (no need for drawing the shapes). One star is very basic with all sides having simple expressions. Two and three star have multi-term expressions on the edges and the rectangles have only the length and breadth shown. This is a flexible lesson on the interior angle sum of an n-gon. The starter is a simple multi choice on estimation of angle size which will help warm the class up. The powerpoint contains both classic ways of teaching this subject: the first few slides come at this from the formula exterior angle = 360 divided by the number of sides when the polygon is regular. The latter slides approach it in a more traditional experimental manner of splitting the polygon into n- 2 triangles. How you deliver the lesson is therefore up to you! The spreadsheet contains multiple activities, most of them differentiated and a print out of a table of facts that students can stick in their books. An entire lesson that gets students to appreciate the different types of angle and estimate their size. The starter is a simple (differentiated) number chain. The power point is fully animated to show how an angle spins around from 0 degrees, passing the key benchmarks of 90, 180 and 270. Students can then estimate the angle. As this is an activity some students will fly through I have included some bonus differentiated number practise as this will primarily be aimed at foundatio GCSE students who always need the practise!

An entire lesson that introduces students to this vital integration technique. It is approached via an easy way of remembering how to split the integral (the way I myself was taught it many years ago). This is the second interim assessment which can be given to any class embarking on the new a level spec from 2017 with the Edexcel board. It covers the topics of surds, completing the square and its uses, sketching quadratic curves, linear and quadratic inequalities, algebraic division, factor theorem and sketching a straight line. The assessment itself will last an hour and there is a follow up lesson where students can tackle similar questions. The powerpoint acts as a marck scheme and can be used to assess the piece of work. The starter is a differentiated student choice mental addition and subtraction exercise where students must work out the missing number in a chain that gives a certain total. The answers are shown on this. The main powerpoint shows an animated use of a number line as a thermometer but also as a height indicator and as profit and loss. The spreadsheet contains multiple resources which you can chose, many of which are differentiated and all of which are write-on so that students do not have to spend tim drawing things

A simple but effective lesson designed to brush up on students basic addition and subtraction skills under the backdrop of money. This is based on the old SATS questions where students would be asked to make different combinations of coins that gave a certain total. The powerpoint contains a variety of questions and then the resource has multiple tasks on different sheets that you can use to differentiate. Some are interactive and will change by pressing F9 on the sheet, thus creating an infinite amount of variations. Surprisingly challenging and always relevant.

The resource is differentiated and the first level of questions expands the brackets for the student and asks them to simplify. The second level sess students expand their own brackets and simplify under addition. The third level includes negative numbers.
