(0)
What’s included? x6 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. x8 images and matching x8 words to sound out and read as well as match to images. What’s it for? This 'Phase 2/3‘ picture and word matching set has been designed to be a simple activity to consolidate learning. This set focuses on sounds within Phase 2 AND Phase 3. This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently and/or for learners to revisit these sounds with an adult. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs. How to use it? Each learner sounds out the graphemes printed on the ‘word cards’ then matches these to the and ‘stand up character/picture cards’. There are x8 pictures and word cards to match. Resource Details… Each word card has a coloured triangle (top, left). Pink indicates these words are using Phase 2 sounds. Purple indicates that these words use Phase 3 sounds. Red letters/graphemes indicate that these sounds might be more tricky as different people can pronounce these sounds differently. E.g. the ‘er’ in the word ‘cracker’ many people pronounce this as an ‘uh’ or ‘a’ sound. Learners may need support with these (red) graphemes. ALL images/words featured here have been chose because they CAN be sounded out - the ‘tick’ pictured on the coloured (pink/purple) triangle indicates that these words can be sounded out. The words included are listed here: Phase 2 Words elf robin Santa Phase 3 Words cracker tree Nutcracker snowman pudding Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Christmas Alphabet picture/grapheme cards to match (Single-sided)

All sheets are portrait orientation, pdf format. Now ALSO includes additional ‘Answer sheet’ Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. double sided (back to back) version also available What’s it for? These Christmas Alphabet cards have been designed to be printed separately onto card to practise identifying the x26 initial sounds and match these with the correct grapheme - all Christmas themed. This set of cards provided learners with a fun opportunity to practise their sound knowledge linked to Christmas. This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently. How to use it? An adult needs to print these cards onto A4 card and and pre-cut the cards into x52 separate rectangle cards. Learners could use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners could also use this resource to order the cards alphabetically. Learners look at each image and say this out loud. They then identify (verbally) the initial sound of this word e.g. for the first letter of the alphabet the learner would say “Advent Calendar” and then “a” (for ‘Advent’). Learners then look for the ‘a’ grapheme card to match the two together. Resource Details… The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners making these a teaching point and opportunity to expand their ‘Christmas vocabulary’. Advent Candle Countdown Calendar

Advent Candle Countdown Calendar

(0)
This is a brand new resource, hot off the press! but as it is being uploaded on December 7th (a week into December!) it is available for FREE at this time! Happy making and Merry Christmas! What’s included? This download includes x1 portrait orientation pdf to make an ‘Advent Candle Countdown Calendar’ to count down the December days from the 1st to the 24th. What’s it for? This countdown has been designed to be used for by an individual/group or class to countdown the days to Christmas together. It has been designed to be made by or with an adult - an adult leading the way with what the steps are and a child/learner helping with these as they are able. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students with additional learning needs. An older, able, pupil may be able to make this ‘with’ or ‘for’ a younger learner in a paired activity, working together. Resource Details Everything needed for the finished Advent Candle Countdown Calendar is included on the pdf. There are six main instructions and additional, detailed, information positioned next to the relevant parts to make what to do clearer. The main task is to cut along the red dotted lines to cut the candle shape out and separate the ‘flaps’ which will fold over the image (for each day) to hide it. Numbers are provided to stick onto these flaps (in order from the base of the candle to the top), or these numbers can be written by hand instead - whatever is preferred/easiest. Learners will need a pencil (to write their name), a pair of scissors, a glue stick and a small ball of Blue Tac (the size of a small marble) - this piece of Blue Tac will then be made into x24 teeny tiny balls which are used to secure the flaps closed until it is the date to be opened. Suggestions This pdf will need to be printed onto white card or it won’t be strong enough to stand up by itself. Double sided sticky tape might be a better alternative to secure the candle shape together (instead of using the glue stick). Glue/double-sided sticky tape is to be applied to the single purple strip, positioned vertically on the right hand side of the pdf. Read the six steps carefully before beginning to help make the process as easy as possible. Word search - January, x20 words to find

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x2 (portrait orientation, pdf) A4 sheets, featuring one ‘January’ word search (page 1). The answers on page 2 clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) to promote autonomy whilst providing easy comparison/quick reference. Who’s it for? This word search has been designed for pupils the early years, in years one and two, as well as students needing additional learning support. Nouns are illustrated to make the meaning of these words clear to learners - this would also benefit pupils with EAL. Resource layout The word search letters are arranged in a x12 by x12 square grid and featuring easy to read ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The January words have been organised into four groups of five clearly showing all hidden words below the word search. There are x20 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (backwards, down). Words to find are; celebration, midnight, happy new year, party, resolution, calendar, diary, first, goals, January, candles, cold, cosy, dark, winter, Aquarius, Capricorn, carnation, garnet and snowdrop. Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified, some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Introducing tally marks and tallying - Data Handling

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x4 A4, portrait pdf sheets in black and white and colour. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to introduce learners to tallying - how to record tally marks carefully and correctly as well as providing an opportunity to both read and write their own tallies (on page 4). This resource has been created as an introduction to ‘tallying’ prior to working on a data handling activity. Recording accurate tally marks is a key part of data handling and an essential skill to record data correctly. It is important that learners are given an opportunity to practise tallying, ready to use the skill in a real-life activity situation. Resource Details The first x3 pages introduce tallying in a step-by-step way, showing learners what a ‘tally’ is, what it is used for and how to write tally marks correctly to record an accurate amount/score. The last, page 4, provides an opportunity for learners to read five tallies and write the total (up to 23) as well as record the correct number of tallies for five numbers (up to 24). Pages 1 to 3 have been designed for an adult to go through with a learner/group of learners in a step-by-step way. Page 1 Learners are introduced to what ‘tallying’ and a ‘tally mark’ is and how tallies are written. Page one clearly shows how tallies one to four are written and how the fifth tally mark is written differently. Page 2 Learners are introduced to ‘tallies’ being written as groups of five and introduces learners to how to write tally marks up to 10, providing an opportunity for learners to write their own tally marks to 10. Page 3 Learners are introduced to how to write tally marks up to 20, providing an opportunity for learners to write their own tally marks to 10 again - this time beginning at a ‘starting dot’ for each tally and tracing over the grey lines to write the tally marks correctly. Page 4 This has also been designed learners to practise reading and writing tally marks. Learners are to record the total number of tallies (writing the number) and record their own tally marks for each number provided. Important message… ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you! Data Handling - Favourite Colour Investigation

(0)
What’s included? This download includes two sets of three A4, portrait pdf sheets ( a black and white AND colour version) to investigate which colour is each pupil’s favourite (designed for a class of 30 - up to 32 spaces available). Learners transfer the information collected to a clear, simple bar chart and answering questions about this. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details There are x3 sheets in total for the B&W AND colour set. Page 1 is to be used in landscape orientation (to collect the data using the tally system). Pages 2 and 3 are both to be used in portrait orientation. Page 2 is designed to use the data collected on the tally chart (on page 1) to create a block graph to present this information. Page 3 asks questions related to the data collected and recorded on pages 1 and 2. The ‘colour’ version has been designed to make the meaning even clearer to learners, especially when plotting the bar chart and recording the colour names in answers to the questions on page 3. Spellings for all colours are clearly displayed at the top (of page 3). Page 1 Learners are to ask up to x32 people ‘What is your favourite colour?’ recording each response using the tally system. For learners who are new to/less familiar with 'how to tally’ - tallying is modelled on the right side of page 2. To begin at the top of page 1 is a space to record ‘how many pupils’ are present (in class) that day to question. Once the data has been collected the number of tallies for each colour can be counted. The total of all colour groups can be added together to check if the same number of people identified as being present and available to ask ‘What is your favourite colour?’ matches the number of tally marks actually recorded. An important lesson in careful, accurate data collection. There is a space for two additional colours to be written if needed (in the boxes on the right side of the tally chart). Page 2 Using the information recorded on page 1 learners then transfer this information to the simple, clear bar chart presented on page 2. Learners colour the same number of ‘coloured boxes’ for the number of tallies recorded for each favourite colour. There is space on the bar chart for up to 32 people (for each colour group). There is also a space to record the data collected for up to two additional colours (on the right side of the bar chart) if needed. Page 3 The questions on page 3 link to the information collected/recorded on pages 1 and 2. There is also an opportunity to practise both reading a tally and recording the correct number this shows and recording a number as a tally. How to make a Function Machine
alphabetlearningalphabetlearning

How to make a Function Machine

(0)
What is a Function Machine? A ‘function machine’ is a shoebox with two slots (like a post box) which adults/learners can ‘post’ a double-sided card (e.g. a credit-card size) into the top slot and this will pop out of the lower slot reversed…to younger learners this can seem like ‘magic’ ! What’s it for? Once this is made it can be used in loads of ways as different sets of double-sided cards are built up to use with it. Examples include - number bond sums doubles facts times tables practising phonics sounds (grapheme on one side, image with that initial sound on the reverse) reading noun words (picture on reverse reveals answer) The list of possible uses is endless and up to you which direction to take this in… This is a great resource to invest in making as it’s a little bit different but can be used to demonstrate learning in an interactive way and for those learners who like to ‘do’ this can really engage and keep them interested - learning without realising - perfect! I have included a description as best as I can along with photos for every step (and from different angles) to try and make exactly what to do as clear as possible. It’s actually not that tricky once you grasp the aim but when it’s made (and it works!) it’s so cool - kids really like it! What’s included? a list of exactly what is needed x5 portrait orientation pdf instruction sheets (with photos) explaining exactly what to do - step by step Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know. This was pretty tricky to explain clearly and succinctly and if my instructions are unclear I’d really like to know so I can improve them for others. If at any point you hit frustration in making this I really want to help so please do let me know. I apologise now if these instructions are not easy to follow and simple but really hope they are and help you! Feedback of this resource would be great! Thank you! Handwriting practise - numbers 1 to 12

(0)
What’s included? This download includes one A4, pdf sheet (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting numerals 1 to 12. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed to break down each step involved in writing these twelve numerals correctly, using green (go!) starting dots and red (stop!) dots to make it clear to learners exactly where to begin and end writing. Support (colour coded) arrows also guide learners on which direction to follow. This resource should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these numerals more closely. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 150. This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has clear ‘starting’ and ‘ending’ dots so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dotted lines on top of letters provide guidance of where exactly to write. There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the line at the base of the sheet and a clear space to record the number-date at the top of the sheet - helpful to keep sheets and track progress (and improvement!) over time… Important message… ANY issues with this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make any changes. Wordsearch - December x22 words to find

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x2 (portrait orientation, pdf) A4 sheets, featuring one ‘December’ word search (page 1). The answers on page 2 clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) to promote autonomy whilst providing easy comparison/quick reference. Who’s it for? This word search has been designed for pupils the early years, in years one and two, as well as students needing additional learning support. Resource layout The word search letters are arranged in a x14 by x13 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The Winter words have been organised into four groups of six (one group of five), clearly showing all hidden words below the word search. There are x22 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards - up and down). Words to find are; advent, cards, carols, decorations, gifts, blue topaz, capricorn, holly, narcissus, sagittarius, turquoise, boxing day, christmas, elves, festive, reindeer, santa claus, give, kindness, merry, mistletoe and poinsettia. Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified, some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible. 2D shapes for window display

(0)
What’s included? This pdf download includes x5 landscape orientation sheets featuring x23 2D Shapes with clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane 2D shapes for (window) display. What’s it for? These 2D shapes have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the shapes look so beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the colour ‘falls’ depends on the position of the shape in relation to the sun which changes as the sun’s position changes. The set gives an opportunity to showcase the whole set of 2D shapes together as a focus to encourage learners to recognise and name each 2D shape and become familiar with recognising and naming them as well as lots of exposure and so time to count the number of sides/corners and think about the properties of each e.g. which have straight/curved sides (or both!). The 2D shapes can of course be repositioned and displayed as you choose. I have included a ‘2D shapes’ label to be displayed with the set of shapes. This resource would also support work on shadows and light/dark. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students who would appreciate a pop of colour shining through these shapes when the sun comes out! Resource Details The shapes all have a name label which is in the font ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 45. There are x5 pages. The first page includes clear instructions and the remaining pages include the set of shapes and 2D Shapes word label. Suggestions I recommend printing and making these letters out of white card - paper would be too flimsy and see-through so not effective. A set of coloured acetate/cellophane sheets is needed to make these - these are quite inexpensive on Amazon(!) I recommend also backing every 2D shape in white card so that the coloured acetate/cellophane is concealed - this looks so much nicer on the window and makes each letter stronger however is twice the work and time and to do this x10 sheets of A4 white card will be needed (instead of x5 sheets). Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of this resource would be brilliant. Resource layout The word search letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The Summer words have been organised into four groups of five (one group of four), clearly showing all hidden words below the word search. There are x19 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards and backwards). Words to find are; bee, butterfly, daisy, rose, beach, bucket, paddle, sandcastle, spade, barbecue, hot, ice cream, picnic, solstice, camp, humid, sand, shell and towel. Wordsearch Months and seasons of the year

(0)
What’s included? This download includes one ‘months of the year’ word search in colour AND black and white. There are x4 pages in total, all portrait orientation in pdf format. The x12 months and x4 seasons of the year are hidden in a x10 by x10 square grid, with the hidden words clearly listed in four (seasonal) groups underneath. The answers (on page 2) clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) for easy comparison and quick reference. Who’s it for? This word search has been carefully designed to encourage young readers in the early years and pupils in years one and two (as well as students needing additional learning support) with reading key words. Knowing these time-related words (the months of the year and seasons) both reading them on-sight and learning the correct spellings will benefit both reading and writing. Resource layout Page 1 The words for the twelve months have been organised into groups of four according to which season they are part of. The box for each season has been colour coded (in the colour version) to make this clearer, the ‘season word’ for each group is also hidden within the word search. There are x16 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards). Words to find are; Winter, December, January, February, Spring, March, April, May, Summer, June, July, August, Autumn, September, October and November (all are hidden as lower case letters). Page 2 The layout is exactly the same design as page 1 making cross referencing the answers quick and easy and encouraging learners to be autonomous. The position of the hidden words is made clear by the colour coded lines as well as a small arrow to the left of each word which identifies the direction of the hidden word. Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible. If words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused. Important message…* ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Wordsearch Number names to twenty x3 versions

Wordsearch Number names to twenty x3 versions

(0)
What’s included? This download includes six pages (x6 A4 sheets, portrait orientation) featuring one word search for number names from ‘one’ to ‘twenty’ (page 1) and the answers - clearly showing where all words are hidden (page 2). The wordsearch letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. Who’s it for? This simple, clear resource has been carefully designed to encourage young readers especially pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Knowing these number names (words) is also an important part of maths in these year groups as questions and information often includes the number name as the written word (e.g. ‘three’) instead of the more easily recognisable numeral (e.g. ‘3’). Resource layout The twenty number name words have been organised into four groups of five, clearly showing all hidden number words in order up to twenty. There are x20 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards) vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (up and down - both directions). Directional arrows on the answer sheet (page 2) make it clear exactly where to look if learners get stuck. The version of this word search which includes numerals is ideal for those learners either needing the additional support of having the numeral AND the number name shown together. For learners who would like an extra challenge, the numerals from 1 - 20 are all also hidden within the wordsearch. Once the learner has located each of these they could be circled on the wordsearch and ticked off in the box below. The numerals have been included in a variety of font styles to encourage learners to get used to recognising numerals written differently. On the colour/black and white versions of the word search there is a space in the four boxes (under the wordsearch where the hidden words are displayed) for learners to write the numerals next to the number names themselves. On all versions of this word search there is a space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet) and to record the number date (top, left). Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible - if words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused, or the black and white version is a good version for photocopying. What’s included? A set of x13 sheets, portrait orientation, colour pdf format. x6 colours (x2 sheets per learner) Colours include x2 red, x2 orange, x2 yellow, x2 green, x2 turquoise, x2 blue and one B&W ‘answers’ sheet. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to give learners an opportunity to explore more closely the position and relationship of numbers to 100 within a hundred number square. There is a 100 number square jigsaw puzzle to cut out (x12 pieces in total) and assemble and some ‘missing numbers’ to fill out, following on from completing the jigsaw puzzle. I have included x6 sets in different colliers to avoid learners getting their jigsaw pieces muddled up when cutting them out and assembling their jigsaw puzzles. How to use it? Each learner is to be given two sheets in the same colour, e.g. one learner has the two red sheets, another learner has the two orange sheets, etc. Page 1. The first page is a ’board’ for the 100 number square jigsaw puzzle pieces to be positioned and then stuck on to. Once this has been completed learners can fill out the missing numbers at the base of this sheet. There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of the sheet and a space to record the number date (top, right). To complete this activity learners will need: a pair of scissors a glue stick a pencil Page 2. This page clearly displays all twelve ‘jigsaw’ pieces for the 100 number square jigsaw puzzle. Learners are to cut around each shape - dotted lines guide where to cut and assemble these pieces on the large white square at the top, centre of page 1. Last page 13. Answers, clearly displayed. The complete 100 number square is at the top, centre and the missing numbers (completed) at the base of the sheet. This has been designed for learners to access and cross-check themselves once they have completed the activity, encouraging autonomy.
