Introducing our family with audio recording

This is a powerpoint I made last year during lockdown when my primary children were working from home. There is an audio recording (French native speaker) for the key vocabulary which is ideal if you are not confident at French but have to teach it. Obviously you can get rid of it, if you want to. To make sure the lesson catered for all abilities, I kept it simple and use repetition a lot to drill key vocab. There are a couple of differentiated reading and writing tasks at the end.

Here is a bundle of various reading and writing tasks to practise French numbers 1 to 60. I have created these tasks to keep my lower ability pupils busy. These don’t require a great amount of writing but help them learn their French numbers in a creative way. You will find a couple of puzzle tasks (match the digit with the words), a colour matching task, ‘spot the correct spelling’ task, a battle-ship task and a writing task with plenty of support.

Few worksheets with differentiated tasks to practise using adjectives to describe ourselves. I used resources from Bruno Guillemin to introduce some of the vocabulary. These worksheets would suit well primary aged children (year 3 to year 6) and lower ability secondary children (year 7).

Here is a powerpoint I created for my primary children to recap the weather and the days of the week. The third slide gives the opportunity to practise reading and writing skills as the children have to spot the correct sentence. I have used pictures pictures of famous towns and places in France. The worksheets have various differentiated tasks

Here are three listening tasks (two on the 2018 World Cup and one on 2022 World Cup). I have copied and pasted the Youtube link. This is an authentic resource made by the Federation Francaise de Foot. It gives the opportunity to engage pupils’ interest especially the boys’. The pupils will be able to see listen and see some famous players getting their lunch while doing this comprehension task. It offers opportunity to recap previous learning on food and greetings.

Here is another worksheet I have created around the World Cup 2022. There is wordsearch with the names of the countries in French. There is a grammar task (sorting them into masculin, feminin and pluriel category and using the correct article). Finally there is a task around colours as the pupils have to colour the flags and write down the country in French. I have attached the answer sheet.

Speaking-task on opinions and fruits. This battle-ship game is ideal to get children to practise opinions and fruits. It caters for lower ability children that need written support but you can delete the words to challenge more confident children. I use it with my year 6 pupils.

It can be used as a way to teach saying our name and asking someone their name, introducing French numbers up to twenty, saying how we feel and finally saying how old we are. Powerpoint activities: 1 practising ‘je m’appelle’ with famous people (speaking or writing on mini-whiteboard) 2Conversation model (to be used as a model) 3 Recap greetings 4 Recap saying our age 5 recap numbers up to 20 6 short paragraphs with famous characters to practise name and age 7 Introduce how to say how we feel 8 Guess the feeling (famous characters) 9 Encore une fois activity (guess what your partner has chosen for each sentence. Each time you guess it wrong, you start from the beginning) 10 Blockbuster (game boys vs girls) 4 of the same colours to win 11 noughts and crosses (boys vs girls) 12 video on French football team (predict language (greetings, numbers, feelings mainly that will be used) 13 Recap name, age and feeling with famous characters 14 Extend vocabulary on feelings explaining the reasons using adjectives 16 Possibility of playing charades with feelings and reasons 17 show emoji/pictures guess the feeling and the adjective 18 blockbuster game 19 Encore une fois with adjectives

Here is powerpoint I have made to recap the different uses of verb avoir with ‘basic vocabulary’ e.g. age, pets, colour of hair, colour of eyes, school timetable, classrooms, being hot, being hungry…etc. You can get the pupils to give you the answers verbally or in writing (from slides 34 to 62). Each slide has the correct answer. The last two slides can be used as visual prompt. The pupils have to tell what students have (stationery, clothes, hair) or what there is in the classroom.
