I taught in a range of schools for many years before moving into FE, where I found creative and imaginative approaches just as rewarding with adults. Most of my resources are concerned with giving control to the learner, through a range of methods. Some are great for just giving them experience of examination questions, and the chance to discuss these with other learners. I now concentrate on spreading the range of creations from UK KS1 to KS4, and across the Common Standards.

A set of great stuff for theoretical and practical lessons on probability. Lots of questions, a PowerPoint introduction that can be fitted in at any time, a quiz that could end one lesson or start another, and events for printing on cards and sorting into order of likelihood. Plus a set of questions from across the years in KS2 for recap and revision. Enough for a couple of lessons, and lots of photographs that will give you and the learners ideas for creating your own questions. All images (c)2015 Colin Billett

Maths KS2 Fractions addition with denominators that are multiples of the same number - simple intro.

Fractions addition and subtraction - getting more complicated in Year 5, and suitable for revision in Year 6 or above. 'add and subtract fractions with the same denominator and denominators that are multiples of the same number' Simple and colourful presentation in PowerPoint, with plenty of places to pause for class responses, and a single worksheet that gives learners practice in these skills.

Multiple resources to look at, and learn, equivalent fractions, from KS2 to GCSE Foundation. Colourful presentations including ‘fraction chains’, lots of authentic types of questions, and lots of activities for colouring in fractions. Everything for a wide range of abilities, right up to KS4. Year 3 - recognise and show, using diagrams, equivalent fractions with small denominators. Year 4 - recognise and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions. Year 5 - compare and order fractions whose denominators are all multiples of the same number; identify, name and write equivalent fractions of a given fraction, represented visually,. Year 6 - use common factors to simplify fractions; use common multiples to express fractions in the same denomination; compare and order fractions.

Maths Statistics Higher Tier KS4 GCSE; two sets multiple-choice questions. Starters, H/W, plenary

(1)
Statistics questions from a variety of past examination papers, suitably changed, and some new ones created to reflect the 2017 examination, with multiple choice answers added by me. Not yet trailed in the classroom so please advise me of any mistakes. Great for all sorts of things, and easily cut and pasted into shorter versions. Answers to follow, but shouldn't be too difficult to work out.
Maths KS 2 Geometry. Bundle of activities and worksheets. Introduction to geometry and angles.

Maths KS 2 Geometry. Bundle of activities and worksheets. Introduction to geometry and angles.

(1)
Some ideas for KS2 Geometry, covering part of the specs for Year 3. • recognise angles as a property of shape or a description of a turn • identify right angles, recognise that two right angles make a half-turn, three make three quarters of a turn and four a complete turn; identify whether angles are greater than or less than a right angle • identify pairs of perpendicular and parallel lines. Editable in Word so you can remove the 'Year 3' reference in the headers - I do it for my own recognition. Hence suitable for revision in year 4 and above. Plus a presentation showing horizontal and vertical through photographs.

GCSE Maths Higher Speed Distance and Time

(0)
GCSE Maths Higher Speed Distance and Time questions in PowerPoint. Some a bit easy, to keep the learners going, and some introducing other concepts, like bounds, gradients, and areas under a curve. A new design for use in classroom discussions or on Zoom - questions on the left of the screen with a blank space on the right for filling in the answers - great for letting the learners try their answers to the tutor or the whole class. Two versions - one with solutions after each slide, and one with solutions at the end.

Linear functions and graphs

Two PowerPoint lessons on straight line graphs, covering all aspects of GCSE Foundation, then Higher Tier mathematics: plot graphs of equations that correspond to straight-line graphs in the coordinate plane; use the form y = mx + c to identify parallel and perpendicular lines; find the equation of the line through two given points or through one point with a given gradient identify and interpret gradients and intercepts of linear functions graphically and algebraically Clear presentations with lots of opportunities for learner engagement, and great for use on Zoom or other distance learning opportunities. Can be used simultaneously with learners in a classroom and at home.

Maths KS2 Simple addition & subtraction of fractions, same denominator. Presentation + activities.

(3)
Addition and subtraction of fractions with the same denominator - UK specs for KS2, Year 3. Great of a bit of revision in Year 4, but learners forget this stuff at every age! Presentation with lots of images and questions, each followed by the answer, or a cut down version with just the questions, and a handout version for the learners to record their own solutions. Colourful, and aiming for class engagement. Plus two worksheets/activities that get the learner shading the fraction sums with a variety of shapes, to see the connection, and a mixed page of addition and subtraction for the learners to complete.
