I have been influenced the Conti and Micheala style of teaching i.e constant retrieval practice, explicit teaching, only teaching words in context, flooded examples, etc. These starters serve as retrieval/exposure to a language point and should take no more than 5 minutes. Pupils copy out both the target language and English. Pupils answer the register with a sentence. There should be time for a brief explanation and check afterwards. The logic of a retrieval plan means that while teaching a module on Theme 1 we will also cover elements from another theme so as aid memory retention. Increased challenge: covering one side of the frame to test pupils I will start this with my pupils after Xmas (Jan 2020).
