Whether children are actively bird watching outside or simply learning about birds around them, it is a great way to engage with nature. This lesson models for learners how to research four different birds and take notes in their jotter. It then demonstrates how to turn these short notes into engaging sentences for their reader. Finally it models for learners how they can lay this out neatly in their jotter and include some of the key features of an information text like headings, subheadings, pictures and captions.

This Chinese New Year is the year of the dragon so the writing focus is going to be on a character description of a Chinese Dragon. This resource explains the five different aspects of a character that pupils should describe in order to successfully convey their character to their reader.
