P7 Leavers Yearbook
This yearbook is a great end of year activity for school leavers. It contains multiple pages where pupils can add information about themselves, class mates, teachers and memories.
This is in a PPT format so can be easily edited to suit the school and printed.
Writing - Information Text on Birds
This writing resource works well along the RSPB Bird Watch which takes place this time of year. Whether children are actively bird watching outside or simply learning about birds around them, it is a great way to engage with nature.
This lesson models for learners how to research four different birds and take notes in their jotter. It then demonstrates how to turn these short notes into engaging sentences for their reader.
Finally it models for learners how they can lay this out neatly in their jotter and include some of the key features of an information text like headings, subheadings, pictures and captions.
Writing: Information Text - Victorian Schools
This resource begins with encouraging learners to create questions about Victorian schools which can become their subheadings. It then demonstrates how to take notes and then transfer these into paragraphs.
It also then models the text on lined paper so it mirrors their jotter. It demonstrates the structures and features of an information text that they can include in theirs.
Chinese New Year - The Great Race Reading Comprehension
This reading comprehension retells the story of the Great Race which created the Zodiac calendar. It contains two tasks:

Task 2: Comprehension questions
The Story of the Wise Men/ Three Kings Reading Comprehension
Two level reading comprehension based on the story of the three wise men. It is told through the eyes of one of the wise men Melchior. This is a great modelled text to inspire children to write their own version of the story through a wise men.
It includes a range of questions from literal, to inferential to vocab focused.
There are also three follow up tasks for learners to complete.
Chinese New Year and the Chinese Zodiac 2024
This powerpoint goes over the key teaching points about Chinese New Year and the different traditions involved in it.
It then explains the Chinese Zodiac and allows the children to see which animal they are. It then goes on to explain the characteristics of someone from the Year of the Dragon.
At the end there are examples of different tasks the learners could complete. These could set or learners could be allowed to choose. You could also complete these as a series of rotational stations.
