This series of remote lessons is based around careers in music. Students are aware of when they must complete a task as there is a specific icon that indicates to do so. The lesson can be done completely remotely as everything is explained within the slides. Each week, the students will look at one career within the music industry that they may not have heard of before. There are multiple tasks for the students to do that are fun and engaging while also being informative. Week 1 focuses on conductors.
This resource is aimed at KS3 students.
Morse Code Music Worksheet - KS3
This worsheet accompanies the Graphic score sequence of learning. Students must spell out their names using the dots and dashes of the morse code key. They must then complete the key, making a sound for a dot and dash (eg. clap on a dot and snap on a dash). Students must then perform their names to each other in a pair.

Instruments of The Orchestra - KS3
This is the first lesson in a series titled Instruments of the Orchestra. The PowerPoint aims to help students understand the different families of the orchestra and the seating chart using the Benjamin Britten’s guide 'The Young Persons Guide To The Orchestra. The accompanying worksheets help in aiding students to describe the sections of orchestra using the piece and the seating chart tasks gets students to think about the various families of the orchestra.
Graphic Scores and Dawn Interlude - KS3
This PowerPoint looks at how to interpret graphic scores using the piece Dawn Interlude by Benjamin Britten. The starter activity gets students to interpret which graphic image represents the sound clip. Students then analyse Dawn Interlude with a True or False activity at the end of the lesson
This worksheet accompanies the first lesson in the Rhythm and Pulse series. Students listen to sound clips of rhythms and match what they hear to the correct written rhythm. There is a bonus question at the end that uses dictation.
This is a three lesson series on rhythm and pulse. Students will learn to comprehend rhythm using dots and boxes which will then be converted into using musical notes. For their final assessment, students compose a 4 bar phrase in 4/4 time signature. All worksheets and reflection sheets are included in the PowerPoints.

This is the updated sequence of learning and resources for Rhythm and Pulse. In this lesson, students will do a rhythm matching exercise and practice performing a polyrhythm in groups.
This bundle consists of all six lessons in the updated Rhythm and Pulse sequence. Students will learn the basics of what rhythm and pulse is, clapping basic crotchet rhythms. This is then developed by using quavers and minims and playing in polyrhythms.

Rhythm and Pulse - KS3
This lesson teaches students about rhythm and pulse. The first few slides teach students about the vocabulary necessary to describe this topic. There is a rhythm matching activity with accompanying worksheet. There are opportunities for group performance and a reflection and feedback sheet.
Rhythm and Pulse: Dots and Boxes
(Lesson 1 of 2) This lesson looks at how to read notation and rhythms using dots and boxes using the words tea, coffee and soup. Students interpret when to clap using the dots in the boxes and when to rest using blank boxes. We then build on this using the word coffee to interpret quaver beats and soup to interpret minim notes. Students then do a group performance using polyrhythms in four parts.
Third lesson in a series about the instruments of the orchestra. This lesson studies woodwind instruments. There is an activity using straws to help students understand reeds, airflow and pitch. And exciting and useful resource.
This is a lesson teaching students the basics of Blues music, including the 12 Bar Blues. Students use a listening activity and then use keyboards or any instrument to perform a simple 12 bar blues. All worksheets are contained in the Power Point.
A lesson based around the instruments of the orchestra. The second lesson in a series. Students learn about the violin, viola, harp, cello and double bass. There is a keyboard activity using Hedwig’s theme on the keyboards.
Rhythm and Pulse - Tea, Coffee, Soup 2
This is the second lesson in the sequence. Students learn how to convert dots and boxes into musical notes and how many beats each ‘dot’ lasts for? Students then compose a four bar rhythm which then perform solo and then perform with others in a polyrhythm.
The second lesson in a series about Blues music. Students build on the knowledge gained in the last lesson about Blues music and the 12 bar blues. They build on this by adding a simple bass line and then a walking bass line.
